Tips and Tricks on the 3rd Gen Tacoma

QUESTION!!!

Does the truck automatically locks itself after a short period of time??

(My old 2002 Tacoma would automatically lock itself after a few minutes)

 

It'll lock itself back if you unlock it and don't open the door. Time is configurable through the radio.

 

Does the smart key system recognize that key fob is not near and then locks automatically???

NO... it works just like he said.... if you unlock it and NOT open a door, it will relock....it did this in my 2006 and now in my 2016 TRD Sport push button start thingy..(even if the Thingy is near the truck)..

 

Anyone know if a cai and exhaust from a second gen will fit a 3rd gen?

 

Does anyone know how to make the dash lights stay on when the headlights are turned off for the 2017 models?

 

The dash lights will be on ONLY if you have the Parking lights on or Headlights on.

They don't stay on because too many people drive with their lights off at night thinking the lights are on because they see the dash lights on.

 

Which is really dumb given that we also have the big green light in the dash showing when lights are on...

 

Yup, and we also get people driving with their blinkers on.

 

Went in for the 5000 mile service today. Had them change the blinker from 3 to 4 blinks. Cost me 0 dollars. Gotta love Weiss Toyota.

 

Do app's like Carista work on the 2017 Tacoma to change some of the settings? I have a bluetooth OBD2 dongle and Carista and ..... Torque? I think it is. I've used them to change a few simple settings on my Jetta and also to troubleshoot a CEL light once.

Yes. Don't have your foot on the brake, hit the start button twice. That puts it in Accessory mode.

Yes, put it in Neautral first, then shut off the engine by pressing the push start button. Everything stays on, including the radio. Someone else mentioned this somewhere on the forum and I use this trick all the time as I don't like keeping it running just for the radio. When I'm done, put in park and press again to turn it off.
