mine was 3 qts low on a 2017... I got a 8 year 125k mile bumper to bumper warranty from Corp. They suck though and will fight you on it.. I would push for it if you plan to keep your truck.... or sell it.

I have had so many stupid issues with this truck. I still love tacomas

gearcruncher is the guru on the trans issue. It has a legacy and is somewhat a mystery/hit and miss with the Tacoma. I've owned many and never had an issue until now.

I think the best way to understand this is to search the forum. I've checked mine multiple times, but I would be doing you a disservice by doing this for you. Search, learn and check it yourself and you'll feel more confident and connected with your new truck. And feel more accomplished.

I have not yet contacted Toyota Customer Care, to be honest. Trying to figure out how to approach them with tact, because I'm not too happy with the situation. I love my job, and want to make sure I have them understand my frustration.

Well they can't fire you for your complaints

You are employed by the dealer correct ?

    Not by Toyota N.A.?

I used to be at a dealership in Raleigh, I won't mention names, I'm now in Rocky Mount... about 45 minutes east of Raleigh.

Techstream will do nothing, insist on a manual check!!!

A friend of mine had a 2016 Tacoma Trd Sport was refused by selling dealer to perform a check transmission fluid after his purchase. He went to a neighboring Toyota dealer and they were happy to check his transmission fluid, it was 1.5 quarts low! They changed the fluid and contacted Toyota about the low fluid issue, the warranty was extended for transmission but It didn't end there, he went back to his selling dealer and met with the general manager about their refusal to check his fluid which resulted in him taking his Tacoma to another dealer for service. The general manager was receptive to his complaint and ordered a 2017 Tacoma Trd Sport with additional equipment to replace his 2016 at no extra cost. A good ending for a change and the fluid was checked prior to delivery on the 2017.

Techstream will do nothing. Ask for your keys back and drive away to the next nearest dealer.

    Squeaky wheels get the grease.

Good for your friend to pursue to it. Most consumers don't know their rights and won't pursue things due to it being a hassle.

you guys were right. they told me you need the ECU update, they flashed my truck and pretty much told me that were was no indication to check my ATF.

Called toyota corporate, they informed me that under the "toyotacares" they should check the fluid levels if requested. Taking my truck to another dealer that is a little further away, I have an appointment with the service manager, also bringing a copy of the procedure to check ATF, wish me luck!

Anyone have a great dealer service provider in Minnesota? I've been trying to work with mine about a manufacturing defect (where a die should have punched a square, a dull die tore out the hole, looks like a rat chewed on it). Its been 4 trips to the dealer and I've now waited a month to hear from them after the last visit they took it to a body shop for a quote...

Needless to say I don't have the greatest confidence in them checking my fluids or any issue that may happen down the road. Any suggestions would be great!
