If mine wasn't provided by my job I would too. My old Motorola flip lasted 6 yrs and I only got a new one because the hinge snapped and the phone was held together by the wires. Thing still worked though.

Yup one of my coworkers at the part time gig has one, he does HVAC and needs a durable phone that isn't in his way when he's working

Even the standard flip phones (non-ruggedized) will take a HELL of a lot more abuse than an Iphone or similar. I've beat the shit out of my flip phone, I can't believe it still works. The battery lasts for days (and not just if I don't use it) and it fits nicely in my pocket.

Plus you can still replace the damn battery cheaply and easily if needed.

I see some people with the newer phones and how fast they break the screens..yikes.

The GF's mom bought a brand-new iphone and broke the screen on it two days later.

I don't get how some people's screens break so easily. I never had mine in a case. It fell a few times out of my pocket when getting outta the truck and landed flat on the screen on pavement, and it didn't have any evidence of a fall.

Landing on an edge or a corner seems to be what usually does it. Something that makes the frame it's held in bend or flex.

Those Otter Box cases seem to really help. I still have an Iphone 5C for work and it's taken a beating. I've dropped it quite a few times and it bounces because of the rubber case.

I used one of my old Motorola flip phones as a hacky-sack. Replaced the antenna with a screw and that thing still kept working. They certainly don't make them like they used to.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
I'm pretty good with my phones but they still don't seem to last. The old phones, the buttons would stop working or get stuck. My 1st smart phone I did not break the glass itself but the LCD screen behind it broke somehow (that was my last HTC phone). Since then I have had Samsungs and they have been OK but I have had to replace batteries and such. IDK I just don't have good luck with them in general. I leased this Galaxy 5 and put the protection plan on it just in case.

There are some ways to get by that in certain states; you can "gift" it which isn't technically a transaction
