Spark plug lottery

So this isn't Tacoma related but it is Toyota related. I pulled these plugs out of my wife's Pontiac Vibe. It has the 1zz-fe Toyota motor. Same as the Corolla and Matrix. It has 160,000 on it right now. Anyone care to guess how long those suckers were in there based on this pic? The new one is on the left.

A lot cheaper too, and both brands are great vehicles. Fold flat rear seats, easy to drive, low TCO. I'd love to have had one, but it was just a bit to small to suit the wife's taste.

 

Yep. The matrix/vibe was a joint venture between GM and Toyota. Toyota drive train with GM styling.

 

We really like my wife's. That's why I'm doing all the maintenance that the PO didn't do.

Well I did some research and it turns out that NGK stamps their plugs with the model number on the bolt part of the plug if it's original equipment for the vehicle. The ones I found in the car were stamped so it appears they were in there for all 160000 miles on the car. I for one am impressed that they still worked.

Question though. I put dielectric grease on the plug threads thinking it was anti seize. In your expert opinion is thus going to cause any issues? I was planning on popping them off again today and cleaning them off.

I purchased a 2006 Toyota Tacoma new with 6 miles on it at time of purchase. I recently changed the plugs because they started fouling out. in 10 years I put 433,651 miles on my truck. that's right those plugs ran for 433,651 miles. the best dam plugs I have ever used. Toyota uses these plugs for a reason ( THEY LAST )
