I wait about 1-2 minutes and my commute to work is 1.4 miles :/ I get to work and I still have ice on my truck lol, so I'll definitely be doing oil changes every 5k or most likely 6-7 months because I'll take me a whole year to get 5k

This is the best part of letting it warm up for me. By the time that 10 min hits all my windows are clean and no fog! Oh and the truck is toasty!

I tried "not" warming up the truck and it just seems like nonsense. Below freezing and just waiting 30 seconds before driving doesn't feel right- thanks Scooter62.

That's a new one for me. Mine is in 6th before I can blink most times.

18 is just a cool morning

Once temps start getting -40F then it is starting to get cold.

The OEM block heater can be added for $55 off ebay. It works wonders and does not require any removal of freeze plugs or draining of fluid. Its a cartridge style that fits in to the rear of the block just below the head on the drivers side.

It makes the engine start like its a normal summer start-up. It gets warm enough to start blowing warm air within a couple minutes driving. On a manual, the clutch even feels better since the clutch line runs very near the area on the block where the heater is installed.

I'm thinking no matter how long you let the engine warm up in the driveway the transmission doesn't? Am I wrong to assume this? Sorry if it's been mentioned, I skimmed through the 80 posts kind of quick.

If I ever see those kind of numbers, I'm packing up and leaving.

I sat in a parking lot last night, truck was sitting for about 2 hours before I got in to start it. Sat there for 15 minutes still cold. This morning, ran my truck for about a minute, was warm within 5 minutes driving.

With my manual trans 2017 I like to let it warm up so the clutch pedal will return. It was 10 *F this morning when I left for work. We had 6" of fresh snow with more coming down and the wind blowing. Letting the truck warm up also clears the ice/frost off the windshield. I use the SnowJoe for all the fluffy white stuff, but I let the defrost take care of the ice or frost. Having a clear windshield is priceless and the law in most places.

I have always let my vehicles warm up in the winter. Some days 30 sec and other days its upwards of 15 minutes. Temperature, snow, ice, and or frost conditions all make a difference in how long I let it idle. It hasn't hurt any of my vehicles. 200,000+ miles on my '95 Ranger when sold. 189,000+ miles on my '11 WRX when traded. Both vehicles ran like tops and had no oil consumption issues (WRX used a little oil, but that is life with a Turbo).

With the exhaust manifold being internal to the engine, this thing heats up really quick compared to my 06. I just drive it gently for the first 3-5 minutes then drive it normally.

Most seem to agree that it warms up a lot faster by driving it than just idling.

Well it's not 180° here. So it still takes time for the engine go from the 40s to operating temperature.

First night of -35C (-31F or so I guess) here in eastern canada. I'll be headed out early to warm up for at least 10 mins. I'm getting too old for scraping windows. And the washer fluid from the dealership froze up the other day. What's the price diff between -15 and -35 fluid? A quarter per jug?

Found out today. It is actually a misdomener, ie ilegal to allow your car to warm up annateneded in ohio.

Due to car thefts apparently. Passed in 2004, so one would think they had remote starts in mind. Idk..

That story made the rounds on the Subaru forums and on facebook. Luckily I don't live in town and get along well with my neighbors - so I doubt I will get reported or that they will steal my truck. Besides, most police cruisers idle a lot too. I doubt that its enforced much.

This is why I keep a brick under the seat. On cold mornings I start up the truck and set the brick on the right pedal. Usually go back inside and enjoy my coffee for 5 mins or so and it's all warmed up.
