When I first bought this house, the owner of the company (who grew up in this street and has owned the business for 40 years), did it for 4 months. I had no issues. $100 a month, filters always cleaned etc.

When they switched to THIS employee (who does the neighborhood route), every month I am getting billed $22-40 extra for things. I am not even sure what the things are.

I complained to the company last month, they "credited" me the bill. I have full camera set up, and this month he didn't even show up twice,b ut the bills keep coming

I sent the pics of all the leaves in the little hole next to the pool that he didn't clean yesterday. I told the boss now (emailed with all pics of proof) and to suspend service.

Yes, that looks more like the one I used. Those rubber strips are replaceable so you can keep the suction at a maximum.

Which is why he needs the test kit. A smaller, simple pool like his should only need small amounts of muriatic acid or sodium bicarbonate to keep the pH around 7.6.

just saw your thread. sounds like you got some descent advice. every homeowner that has a pool should have a 5 in 1 test kit and not be afraid to ask their pool service company to explain their bill, and ask questions about their pool and how it works. I've been cleaning swimming pools for almost 25 years and I am the owner of my own pool company. I have always incouraged my customers to learn about their pool, and ask me or my employees any question they have ( even if they think it might be dumb). Good luck!

We have a pool and I do all of the maintenance.

Utilize the free water tests at your local pool shop. They will tell you exactly what you need chemical wise. I've found that the mom and pop shops... if avaliable are more inclined to offer their help and experiences.

As for the vacuum... buy one of the automated ones... super easy and runs the entire time you run your filter everyday.

What kind of filter do you have? You will need to clean the filter every 4-6 months depending on how dirty your area is naturally. I'm in Long Beach, with very little trees around so I can go the entire 6 months.

Know how many gallons your pool is?

Ohhh and try to upgrade to a variable speed pump if you can... huge electrical bill savings and more efficient in filtering

Agree, us smaller companies that the owners are out in the field everyday generally don't mind sharing there knowledge. Chain stores generally hire young inexperenced employees, because they work for less.

You must have a cartridge filter if you are going 6 months between cleanings. DE filters about 2-3 weeks depending on pool conditions. Sand filters 7-10 days.

Yes sir... cartridge FTW! Used to have DE filter for years... Saves water time and is super efficient!

Thank you Jeff. Owner initially was good. The current guy is horrible. But it is also my fault. I never wanted to learn about it, and just wrote a check.

Seeing all the inconsistencies in the recent billing made my scratch my head....and learn it on my own

    1) I don't know how many gallons it is. Is there a way I can estimate it? 3 feet shallow, 8 feet deep, 5 feet in the middle.

    2) Which automated one do you have for vacuum? I am still in the learning phase

    3) The filter is the long silver metal thing. When you open it, its like leaves (shape) that come out, and you clean each one. The pool company owner showed me once last year. I can take it out and take picture.

    4) Very little dirt or wind. Just tree stuff in the fall/winter.

Measure the length and width and I can tell you how many gallons the pool is. Just guessing from the picture, around 20,000 gallons.

I considered doing the chemicals myself. Like yours, my guy comes once a week for about 10 mins. He dumps some salt in the pool, squirts some other chemical, empties the skimmers and then he bolts. While it's probably simple to maintain, it's only $65 per mo., and I'm fairly lazy.

And after typing this I recognize my post is not helpful, apologies!
