I've loved both of my Tacomas, and my Landcruiser and both 4Runners. There's a reason I've owned 6 Toyota made trucks/SUVs, the RX300 and Rav4 were good, but I didn't love them.

Mine is a 2007, and after 10 years, 148,000 miles, I guess I can say that the gen 2 was a fairly good "platform" to build a truck on that I can use. It has been very reliable and that is it's saving grace. About all you can hope for these days is to find a good platform. It wasn't my intention to buy a "platform" however. I actually need a truck that can haul, tow, and deal with some adverse conditions. That used to be the definition of a "truck". That is what I thought I was getting from a company like Toyota. So the bottom line for me is that after spending a good 10K to replace the entire suspension, make significant changes to the drivetrain, install such trivial things as bumpers, and fix a laundry list of little issues like the heater resistor then yes, I'm pretty happy with the truck. It's a real disappointment to me that after 10 years in production, Toyota still hasn't taken care of problems that they know existed from day one. They are great at band-aiding a problem while never admitting that the problem ever existed. I definitely would not buy another one unless I had the coin up front to fix everything that is wrong. My faith in Toyota is pretty low. I've finally got mine fixed, after years of work and a ton of money, and I'll drive it till it won't go another mile. Hopefully that is a long way off.

Love my 08, none of that worthless technology crap that goes bad in a couple years. Keep it simple!

I'll keep it till it dies.
