that looks like a good set up on this old truck you had. Love the camper on back. that would be great towing the bass boat for weekends. Sweet ride you had. Sure like the older ext cab looks much better than the way they now all have 4 doors that open in back and just smaller doors,

Nothing will make the case for me to buy full size over mid. My truck stays in the driveway because my half of the garage is for motorcycles. If I buy a full size or even a DCLB Tacoma and park it in my driveway my wife can't get her BMW into the garage. End of the world. Everyone dies.

It is your money, you can spend it however you want. But I wouldn't pay 51K for any truck...

    gee-sas...truck prices have become obscene.

I should not have sold it. It had a lot of life left in it. But I was the only one in the family that could handle that rig. Scared my wife to death with the torque on that puppy, lol.

I bought the camper 5 1/2 years ago, and when I sold it I had logged more than 300 nights in it.. Hallmark makes a GREAT truck camper. Can't say enough good things about that family owned business. One of the underlying reasons for me going to at least a 1/2 ton is in case we opt for another truck camper. I can haul 1,750 pretty comfortably in the back with minimal effort and cost.

One thing I like about that body Dodge and the new ones, they allow a manual trans in the big trucks. I don't know anything about Dodge quality but props for allowing them buyers a 3rd pedal.

    Sounds like Tacoma owners...

I have even seen Tacoma owners throw buckets off mud on their truck to prove then went off roading

That would be a losing bet.

    Heck, even with 34" tires, a V10, and 4x4, it can still manage 15mpg on the highway (if you don't mention in-town mpg I won't :D )

American manufacturers don't build vehicles like they did in the 1980's.

They have all stepped up their game.

There are countless Big 3 trucks with well over 200k, 300k and still going strong.

To blindly state that all American vehicles are junk and Toyotas are the pinnacle of reliability is an ignorant statement.

    Or just blind fanboism.

You'll have to excuse the Toyota fan boys, they contribute absolutely no factual statements to these threads, suggest your an idiot for even considering domestic, and if you buy one you most certainly will be taking the bus after your warranty is out and your Chevy/Ford/dodge self implodes.

Honestly I own a '16 4Runner TE and a '05 trd off road taco. Even I can't stand the blind brand loyalty so tiring.

My '92 rcsb z71 still runs like a top with just under 300k on the clock, everything still works. I have never had an issue with this truck.

I've got a 92 Toyota with a flatbed(rust ate the original bed) with well over 600k miles, but it's ragged the hell out from many thousands of miles off road. I swapped the 3.0 v6 at about 500k when the head gaskets let go for the 4th time and it overheated to the point of knocking. It's still a dependable truck, but a total POS. My uncle now uses it to haul scrap metal, and the oil gets changed once a year, whether it needs it or not.
I had to replace the head gaskets in my 92 4runner for the second time at 245k, and then sold it. I went for the 4 banger in my new Taco so I'd only have to replace one head gasket, haha. Anything can be reliable with proper maintenance, but I consider head gasket failure a pretty big one, since it often costs more than the vehicle is worth to fix if you have to pay someone.
I've had jeep Cherokees and Comanches live well past 400k, with no problems at all, other than from my own abuse and negligence.
American stuff can and has been great at times, and Toyotas can suck sometimes.

BTW, not everyone wants 'luxury' in a 4x4. It's just more crap to screw up over years of use and abuse. Give me a steel dashboard, some gauges, and an fm radio, and I'm good.

The touch screen stereo in my taco is neat, but I don't predict it still working 10 years from now, and I'm pessimistic about whether or not the electronic 4wd stuff is going to live up to my demands as an offroad and outdoors enthusiast, but we'll see.
At least I don't have to worry about shifting problems with my 5 speed....

Only thing that will make me go full size are when my boys start growing, then Ill have no choice, but I think I will still keep the taco around.

My reason for buying the Tacoma (short bed) are because of reliability, resale value (holy crap do these trucks keep their value!), and off-road fun. I live in the city so the short bed appealed to me, and the backup camera is priceless! As for carrying stuff, the short bed is, well, short. I haven't transported my kayak yet (Pyranha Burn III), but I know I'll need to leave the tailgate down or throw it on the roof like I did my car. Heck, my paddle doesn't even fit in the bed of my truck. But I still love it. I have no need for a full-size truck. Plus, we can get through tighter spots off-road. The benefits of being the little guy.

Tacomas aren't all that little anymore (I miss the true mini trucks), plus it depends on the model. Track width isn't all that much different between a Tacoma and a fullsize...like 2+/- inches per side. RCSB fullsize has a shorter wheelbase.

Though not too many people want regular cabs anymore.

There's very little tacoma crowd around here. Those that do buy them for off road use it
