Been a while since I've updated this thread, in the meantime Tiff got front skids from AllPro. Boy, these things are beef, they must weight about ~60lbs,

They looked super nice, so I cleaned off all the shipping label goop, and sprayed them with the same rustoleum that I use on my bed rack. Unfortunately the AllPro sticker didn't stick long  but the front of the truck is complete now.

The install was pretty straightforward, for whatever reason the large hardware supplied did not fit my truck for the belly skid. A little bit of reaming was needed to get everything lined up, and with an extra hand install took less than an hour. Can't wait to have an excuse to try them out!

Great looking rig and scenery. Lived in Monterey and San Ramon for a time. Beautiful part of the country. Now my taco takes my '16 Stumpjumper Expert to deep forest single track here on the east coast. Big change from Nor CAL trails.

Thanks @Voyager ! Sounds like you've got a nice bike too! I'm currently riding an Transition Covert, but its about time to upgrade. The main reason I started building up the truck was to get to some more remote biking areas near Lake Tahoe. Seems as though California keeps making it harder and harder to get into the forest wilderness, but if you look hard there are spots. How is the biking out on the East coast? The furthest east I've ever ridden is Colorado!

    mtnbike247,

Agree. In CA...seemed like we mtn bikers were getting relegated to the firebreaks, while the hikers and equestrians got all the good trails…at least by the coast.

Yeah - the spec is full carbon fiber with pike. Solid ride.

East coast is nice deep, loamy singletrack, but tight & flat. So like you, I’m looking to go “expo” with my toy hauler to reach farther out for adventures. Adding an RTT should allow for exploring the Appalachians (2-3 hrs away) w/ trk, mtn bike or 1200 GSA.

Investigating RTT options right now. Thoughts?

Depends on where you go. Problem with the east is there are a lot of dirt roadies around so they are quick to destroy any fun "features" that arnt way off the beaten path. I def like that transition man, looks like a solid all around. The good thing about northern va though is there is a pretty strong community for freeriding and downhill. Once you get in the group, there are some decent hidden gems around here and a few shuttle spots to tide us over until the season starts back up. Damn winter.

@Voyager, I really enjoy the roof top tent, it really takes the pain out of camping! You have a flat platform, with a pad, and the sleep is much better than on the ground in my opinion. It sets up in seconds. I think my only complaint with any roof top tent is that they are kind of high visibility when setup, so sleeping in your roof top tent in illegal spots isn't quite as incognito as you would be if you were in a shell. I've used mine now on many bike related trips, and it's really been great. Perhaps you could find a member who you would let you borrow one, so you could see how much you'd actually like one!

@Coot83, it seems like the whole bike community is based around who you know, it really determines what trails you'll find. It's amazing how many hidden gems there are in the bike community, I always love finding new trails and friends to ride with. Thanks for the compliments on the bike! It's an absolute blast of a bike, especially for its age. It's super playful, and it really does it all, no wonder Transition was awarded bike of the year! I've also heard a lot about the biking scene up near you, it sounds pretty cool, freeriding and downhill aren't as popular out here anymore, but it seems like the sport as a whole is really growing.

Thanks for the info man, def is interesting to hear that DH isn't as popular over there these days. The trail riding guys seem to be the majority around in my area as it is the easiest to find trails and many don't like the commuting to a bike park or having a bike that is hard to pedal uphill. I am the sort of guy who is involved in many different hobbies so I tend to float with different groups depending on what I am doing, but man nothing compares to the honesty of mountain bikers. There is just a natural joy that can't be altered, and the basics that have brought us into biking are still there today. Due to my outlandish behavior and adrenaline lifestyle, I tend to get along best with the DH crew as its a lot of fun and crazy jokes for days. I don't know if its a good thing, but my dh riding has sort of transcended into offroading as I like hauling ass on trails and feeling that adrenaline of working the truck. I say this, but I do drive within reason so Im not just a wreck waiting to happen. That being said, I think the latest "peaty's last orders" vid with Brendawg def is a good example of what I am talking about with being a mountain biker.
