Interior lights.

So I got in my truck the other day and started driving to work (530 am) and it seemed like my radio/dash area was darker. no buttons were lit up. No buttons on my climate control. Is this right? or are these supposed to be lit up. I have a 2012 trdOR dcsb without nav. I checked around and can't really figure it out. Some pics look like its lit up others don't.

mine has the same dimmer but it only dims the dash lights. I'm just not sure if the radio buttons light up and the climate control is supposed to be backlit. its weird I've had my truck for over a year and its something I really never paid attention to until one day it just seemed too dark.

 

Yes and yes, though my radio is aftermarket.

 

My climate control knobs kind of light up... Depends on the humidity, what time of day it is, how many bumps are in the road, how much weed the climate control knobs has smoked... wait, what?

In other words, the knobs for the fan speed/temp/vent control light kind of half-ass works.
I'm sure there's something wrong that I could analyze by taking it apart but it's definitely not the dimmer and not a fuse. Connection? I've taken it out to work on the aftermarket stereo so maybe I indadvertedly screwed something up. Kind of farther down on the to-do list for things to work on/fix on my truck.

 

Mine are intermittent as well. Just another quality feature of the second gen. Oh what a feeling!

 

what about the radio buttons? Are they supposed to be backlit?

 

to me it looks like the radio buttons are backlit and the climate knobs are as well.
what would make just these two things all of a sudden not work.

 

Have you taken your stereo/climate assembly apart recently?
Taken it on any really rough trails?
Looked at it funny?

You're guess is as good as mine or anyone else's around here. Best bet is to check the fuses first, then check the connections and then get out the tools and start taking shit apart.

 

nothing other than messed with my headlights. pulled some fuses in and out to check. these two thing wouldn't be on the same fuse would they? Plus the radio works fine its just not backlit.

 

I had the exact same issue last night. The speedo and radio were lit up, but my climate controls and steering wheel were not. Started thinking WTF?! Is it wiring, fuses, yada, yada, yada...

Turns out my headlights weren't on. I did the fog light any time mod a while back and my fogs were on, but the headlights weren't. lol

I was coming home from getting stitches, so I had my mind on that. Since Tacoma headlights suck anyway, I didn't notice much of a difference.
