Owner called. Said this is how we feed our families, so please think of us. Additionally said, the "$22" charges last month and this month were "mistakes" and will credit us the amount.

 

Even know you may not want to be a Certified Pool operator as I have been for several years now. You may want to check here to see if they have classes in your area...Pools can and will be a pain in the ASS is you don't understand water chemistry things can go wrong in a hurry. Green water,cloudy water,Hard water,black algae,green algae,mustard algae, cyanuric acid issues etc: If you have a marcite pool having jacked up chemicals it will suck the calcium right out then you have to re-plaster pool...

Yeah I can do the one in march in Santa Clarita

 

Really, the only time you need to pull that thing apart and clean off the filter grids is if you are having water quality issues or if the pressure doesn't drop considerably after backwashing. Is there any kind of mark on the pressure gauge that shows when it's too high and needs to be backwashed? We always did that so that no matter who the tech was that showed up, it would be obvious if the filter needed service.

Pressure is indixated at 15psi

 

Do you know the last time it was backwashed? If it's been a while, I'd backwash it and then use a Sharpie to mark the normal pressure level and if it gets too high from there you know it needs it again.

 

I am not sure what back wash means

The filter was opened and cleaned out in august

 

The way your filter works, is the "leaf" shaped grids hold onto diatomaceous earth (DE), which is a very fine filter material with lots of internal surface area that trap fine particles flowing through the filter. After a while, the DE gets fully saturated with crud and reduces system performance by restricting flow. Backwashing essentially flows the water in the opposite direction and blows the dirt out the open pipe coming from the bottom of your filter.

 

Backwash means you turn a valve then turn the pump back on and it washes the DE out and down a drain. Have water filling the pool at same time. do not let the water level get lower than the skimmers.

Yeah the pool company owner in august took out all the leaves and washed each individually in front of me in August

 

I believe on your particular filter, it is a stainless steel or chrome handle sticking out of the bottom of the filter, underneath where the stand is. Push it fully one way to open and the other way to close. Similar to this:

Usually I just take mine out and rinse it down with a hose attached to a low pressure nozzle. Works for me.

 

Come out of the bottom of your filter should be a total of three pipes:

1) one coming into from the pump
2) one coming out of it and returning to the pool, likely attached to pipes sticking out of the ground
3) the backwash line which is a dead end, open line that likely has a hose clamp on the end of it

 

So you don't backwash

Just take the leave like things out of filters and wash it out ?

That is what I saw the owner of the pool company do it

 

Taking them out and cleaning is an unnecessary step if everything is working properly. If a simple backwash gets the pressure down and your water is otherwise crystal clear, don't mess with taking the filter apart.

When you backwash, a ton of nasty brown water is going to come out of that open pipe I mentioned. If the pool equipment is in an area where the water will easily drain away without causing issues, then you can just let it fly right there. Otherwise, you need to hook up a hose to the end of that pipe and run it to a good drainage location before starting the backwash.
