at 6 months, 2500 miles, i changed my oil myself and over filled a bit maybe 1/4" over full on the dip stick. at 12 months the dealer changed the oil? about a month after taking it to the dealer i checked the oil and it was 1/4" over full and did have a alight dark color to it. i had only 5K miles on it at the 12 month service seems strange they would over fill it also. just thinking maybe the tec saw only 5K miles and did not do it. paper work says oil changed. maybe just me being paranoid and reading to many threads here.

I'm at 12K, Im leaving on a trip and when I get home, will be about 15K. Went to dealer and they said not due till 20K. I'd rather get them at every 5K, but they do it for free and would charge me for to early. Every hear of such a thing? My 2013 Tacoma was every 5K....

Maybe Toyota dealers in Hawaii are amazing. Here the oil change man is lowest on the totem pole. 18 year old GED

After a month it will have a tint to it. How dark are you saying it is?
Maybe the tech measured what drained out and replaced that exact amount:notsure:.

I hope you had one at 10k right.
It is every 10k or 12 months on these trucks.

Toyota recommends every 10,000 miles and it they are covering the cost, that's what they'll do. You, however, can change it as much as you want to.

they only change oil at 10k and 20k miles. when i took it in for the 5k and 15k checkup
i drained a couple quarts of oil and examine it, then they top it off.
so i get a partial oil change

So you drive to the dealership with less than optimum oil level in your truck, so you can get some free new oil from them?

If I fill my 2.7l 4cyl with the specified amount of oil it's about 1/4" above the fill mark on the dipstick. Apparently this is normal.

... or just index the drain bolt with a grease-pencil since the first couple changes are free....
