I use my remote start pretty much EVERY time I start my truck. I don't care as much about the cold as I live in the desert. I require the AC to be running when I get in so I don't load my kids into a 140° oven. :bananadead:

Best and most useful addition to my truck so far.

I'm definitely getting renote start to crank the AC before getting in the truck because no shit it does get up to 140 which sucks. Having kids makes it waaaaay worse because they generally freak out when getting into a sweltering car... and who would blame them!?!

It's been one of those things I've wanted forever... that, and air conditioned seats!

Does your truck have the Toyota alarm on it or just the keyless entry?

I have a Viper remote start and I love it. The only downside is about once a month it stops working. I have to disconnect my battery to reset it. Other than that I love it.

A V-6 burns .4 gallons of fuel per hour at idle..... That doesn't come near you 20-30% figure.

I'd like to know what REAL and ACTUAL damage is being done to an engine that idles for 10 to 15 minutes, do explain your old wive's tale of this myth.

Cold cylinder walls being washed of oil???

Scrapping 3" of snow/ice off the windows at 5am then waiting 5 minutes for the defroster to melt that last thin sheen of ice SUCKS BALLS. Especially if you're in a hurry.

    GET IT.

I recently had Viper smart start system installed and use it every night. I was going to get a regular 2 way remote start but I have to park far away from where I work and the remote range wouldnt be reliable. Before I get out of my truck I put the heater on. Then about 15 minutes before I leave work I open the Viper app and start my truck. When I walk out my truck is running and the inside is nice and warm. Plus if it snows I leave the defroster setting on and my windshield is clear or easier to scrape. I dont have to sit in the parking lot like everyone else waiting for the engine to warm up before I leave. I can also lock/unlock/panic and receive alarm alerts all on my cell.

I was on the fence about going the route of getting a RS that works off my phone. I remembered at the last minute that the building I work in shield cell phone signals.

The 1000' range remote for my RS works fine thru all the building shielding.

Glad the previous owner had a remote starter installed already. I use it religiously.

I wouldn't have spent the money on myself but my truck had it when i bought it(used). now i use it every chance i can. just a few minutes softens the ice enough to swipe instead of scrape usually. I try to lift my wipers off window if we gonna get pounded with snow, dont leave wipers on if lots of snow expected, could possibly hort linkage or motor if they are trapped in a drift on your hood. I put remotes on all of the wifes vehicles, she deserves a warm truck in a.m. But the choice is yours,if u want one ask around who has one , where they got installed and if they are happy with it. We are!
