99 Tacoma 4x4 w/ 320K miles

Is that good or bad

not being there, looks ok to me too. especially if you know what you're getting. dents and dings mean that you have to worry less if you put a few more on it. ...and for 3500, you're looking at a good deal (with an ok frame and ok records of maintenance).

OEM parts can be pricey, but if you're willing to do the work yourself you'll be ok. they are easy trucks to work on and the wealth of knowledge here will keep you from getting too stuck.

i know you said it'll be your daily driver, and you're not too worried about OEM. ...but those parts got this truck this far, consider them a larger investment on the front end for a cheaper cost of ownership in the long run. the truck made it past 300k because of good quality parts.

 

This year I bought this 04 TRD 4x4 with almost half-a-million miles from a TW member for $600. It does have a spot of rust on the passenger side frame rail but its at a fellow TW member's shop, Mobtown Offroad, and hes taking care of that for me. Still runs/drives great. Now I have 2 of'em lol.

 

Miles are just numbers, if it's been maintained it'll be less stuff for you to do once you get it. We bought a truck with 450k on it. Had to replace basic wear and tear items but it's a solid truck now.
I would be a little hesitant just seeing it fully loaded with wood, if it's been worked like that for 320k, could take a toll on the drivetrain.
But looks good overall, id go for it

 

Have your mechanic do a compression and leak down test on it if possible. If it checks out, buy it. It's a lot of miles but at that price you could replace a lot of parts before you get to the price point of a truck with half that many miles.

Like I said, I am a complete dumb dumb when it comes to trucks. I'm learning a lot from you guys though

 

For $3500 I'd go for it. It just depends on your budget. The more you spend the lower the miles and better the condition tend to be. 320K doesn't scare me as long as it's well maintained.

 

The owner said it is going to need a new power steering pump and a bushings in the left front shock. This is the only rust he knows of on the truck:

I don't like how raised it is. Would it be ill-advised to have it lowered and eventually put on 31s instead of 33s. Seems like 33 is just too much rubber for that truck

 

Bushings were not a fun job on mine. Every bolt had to be cut and I had to buy all new caster bolts, sleeves and nuts, so while there I also went ahead and did lower bj's, as well as inner and outter TRE's. It was a costly endeavor to say the least, over 500 in parts alone as I went with oem

 

That's my problem with this truck

Looks like ridden hard and put up wet

I prefer stock
If I want to modify I want to do it myself
Not get Someone else's headache

 

Not to high jack the thread with a sale, but my uncle lives that way and I'd be willing to do the drive... I'll sell you mine. Similar mileage but newer motor and I redid the suspension. The only thing that could go wrong is the tranny...easy(er) fix, but shifts and feels better than my Chevy with 150k miles.
