Ive noticed a few people have been switching the (top) running light/parking light harness and moving it to the (bottom) to the turn signal harness. Basically convertering it to where you have fog lights. I was curious to what all was needed? If I needed to extend the wires or what? Thanks in advance

I would like to stay simple and just switch the harnesses if I could. I just want to know if they would be long enough to reach from top to bottom and vice versa.

Why not buy a new harness and real fogs?

He does say he wants to stay "simple" I think he likes the stock look. Correct? Besides retrofits @Tacolema01

They won't be long enough. You'll need to extend the wires to the swapped locations.

I would find some rectangle fogs that will fit in there. I believe TRS has some LED fogs. I might get a set, and retro them into the stock housing.

you dont need to actually swap the wires. just cut both green wires behind the park lights and swap them there. thats as simple as it gets. takes 5mins.

The little bulbs in the corner lights don't pull enough current. You will have rapid blink unless you do something to prevent it.

Thanks for bringing the thread up. Maybe it's time to have some education in the subject of the the vehicle lighting

This is total bullshit - mix of light names without understanding what they are for and what is the legal requirement.

    1. "corner lamps" (also known as "parking" or "front markers") have very specific requirements regarding placement (in the corner) and light output and pattern. They are intended to mark the corner of the vehicle at night. US legal color is amber, light pattern is omnidirectional and brightness equivalent to 5W incandescent bulb. Moving that light into different place defeats the purpose and make the vehicle not compliant with legal requirements. That light can't use higher power because it will blind other drivers at night.

    2. "front blinkers" (also known as turn signals) also have a specific light pattern (omnidirectional) so it is visible from all "front" directions and light output must be big enough to be visible at day time and not blinding at night. Usually the light output is equivalent of 21-28W incandescent bulb. Color is amber. It is possible to relocate blinkers to corner lamps (which actually meets the pattern and location criteria) but it has to provide the brightness equivalent to 21W incandescent lamp. So reusing 5W bulb that is in corner lamp is not legal as it does not provide enough light to be visible at daytime. There are good write-ups about "blinker relocation" that add 21W bulb to corner lamp housing or replacing 5W parking bulb with dual filament (5/21W) of amber color - 5W used for parking lamp circuit, 21W used for blinker.

    3. Finally about using front turn signal housing for "fog light". This is completely wrong. The front turn signal lamp creates the incorrect light pattern for being used as a fog lamp. However the front turn signal can be used for DRL (after blinker relocation). The light pattern and light output matches DRL requirements. But you can't wire DRL to parking light circuit - it has to have it's own switch and logic. The whole idea of DRL is that they are turned on during the day time but must be off at night driving (or they will blind other drivers).

1st gen Tacoma does not come with fog lights. Swapping bulbs or reconnecting wires will not change that. The only way to add fog light is either adding legal and correct fog light under the bumper or do blinker relocation mod and replace front blinker housing with proper rectangular matching fog lamps (with correct light pattern).

But the subject is still current - unfortunately people still need to be educated about lighting and not treating vehicles like a Christmas tree.

I'd venture to say that every single issue on this whole site is current, because people everywhere are still buying, selling & acquiring old Tacoma (& every other) trucks.
So, what's the point of focusing on the date? If we didnt have a need to know these things NOW, we would never even be here in the first place, commenting on "old" topics.
    - Why does this even need to be explained? WTF
