manual or auto?

i always wanted a tacoma truck, so i recently purchased black 02 TRD off-road with low milles, a stepside bed. which i thought was unique, looks good and i dont see many around. but i wanted auto tranny, but my truck is 5 spd. Tacoma 5spd is flawless, and much easier to shift and drive than my WRX that i sold to buy tacoma. i test drove auto tacoma, and not impressed with power delivery very sluggish. so far im happy with my purchase. the combination of style, quality and power. i was sold on it. what is your thought on auto vs stick on tacoma. why do you prefer auto or stick?

 

I prefer the 5-speed because it brings the life out The 2.7. It's also much more fun LOL.

get the auto, pulling only 2k RPM's at about 80 on the highway is nice on milage.

 

i have the 6speed. if i get a new one next year im thinking about getting an auto though.

 

I've got the 6spd. Love it! In traffic it wears out my left foot but worth it to me. I've never had an automatic as a daily driver. Too boring.

 

The whole time that I drove an auto I was envying the guys with their manuals LOL

then turn up the radio and sing, or harrass a passenger. Personally I enjoy being able to drive to work and drink my coffee and not have to worry about shifting all the time. The auto can seem a little tame on the performance, if it does then take it out of "D" and put it in 4th it will be a little more peppy.

 

I've always owned a stick for daily driver...agree it gets boring without it. If I want to drive an auto I drive the wife's car.

I did too in my previous Tacoma I just don't like having to shift all the time in traffic, it just got old after a while. That and the constant squeaking of the clutch pedal

 

I love the control that a manual gives, especially during those times when an automatic would cycle between two gears (e.g. a steep hill when the revs are too high so it shifts lower, then the speed drops and it shifts back into the higher gear because you're trying to make it go faster).

 

I prefer the automatic. I'll never have to replace a clutch and fluid changes every 50-60k miles are a cinch. If I ever need more power *right now* I just stomp on it, which I can do with no hands. I'm old enough now that I don't miss shifting my own gears. Plus if I ever need to manually select a gear, I can still do that. I'm sure the manual helps people to wring a little more performance out of the 4-banger but that is not important to me. As a twenty-something I had Mustangs with stick shifts and don't really miss it that much.

 

I love my 6 speed! But since I live in Vermont there's no traffic to worry about. We have rush minute, not rush hour. But the best part is nobody asks to borrow your truck once they realize it's a stick.
