Alright, I ordered a T61 Lenovo. But I just realized that they removed the bluetooth option, which I was really hoping for. I may have to cancel and get a Dell that has bluetooth.

I'm going to call them about bluetooth and "downgrading" to Linux to save a few dollars.

    Here's the configuration...
Intel Core 2 Duo processor T9300
    Vista Basic
    15.4 WSXGA+ LCD
    NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M
    2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM
    250 GB Hard Drive
    DVD Recorder
    Intel Wireless N Card
    Finger Scanner
    No Bluetooth :(
    Extended Battery
    3 year Warranty

    $1200

Sounds nice even without the bluetooth, but I really think that bluetooth should come standard (with a hardware disconnect switch) on all laptops.

They said they were out, but they could add it to the order, I just might not get the laptop in time. I need it for August 15th

I personally wouldn't cancel the order just because it doesn't have bluetooth built in. There's USB bluetooth modules that are probably under $40 that you can just get. Might even be able to buy the actual factory bluetooth and put it in yourself. Not sure though.

But I sure as hell wouldn't trade my T61p for a similar dell workstation laptop just because it didn't have bluetooth.

Unless you want to learn all over again and have to find ways to work with some windows programs stay with windows,

Also some of the newer laptops dont have drivers for Xp and not all may work if you downgrade to XP

Yeah, I'm going to have the order go through. I've seen some bluetooth dongles that barely protrude.

I asked about adding factory bluetooth and he said it was soldered to the board.

For the folks that are wondering, I was also looking at the Dell Studio 15. I liked the Lenovo because it has a metal cage to protect the screen, rugged hinges, highly rated keyboard, and consumer reports ranks it highly. Also, the lenovo was a tad cheaper.

I ordered directly through Lenovo with a Contractor code.

There is an option to downgrade to XP, but it costs more. I've got a copy of XP at home, so I'll just use that.

So far, I'm not very impressed with the website experience. When I placed the order, I specified free 2nd day shipping. I checked the status today and it was back to ground shipping. I called them up and they said they were having server issues. They offered to expedite the shipping and it should come quicker now than before.

Also, every time I try to log into the site, it says that my password is incorrect. This laptop better be bad ass.

Yo dude, I don't know much about computer and all that stuff. My only question is...can you look at pron on that laptop? If so, you made a very wise buying decision. If not, well then I think you're wasting your money with this brick.

    yea their site kinda sucks.

anyway, when you try to log in, you have to log in to whatever page you ordered from. So since you ordered though CPP, you need to go to that site and log in from there. You can't use your login at the normal lenovo site.

We are using XP still at the DOT. I guess Dell has a few nice Gov contracts.

There's been dog food and baby formula issues, as well as other Chinese products that have been poorly designed and produced without concern for safety or usability, but such problems have been pointed out in the products of every fast growing industrial economy the world has ever seen.

In earlier years for example, many Japanese exports were likewise considered junk - but did that slow Japan down as it took its place as a world power in production and cutting edge technology? Not hardly!

Will a number of similar widely publicized issues slow the exploding growth of Chinese industry and manufacturing? Not hardly!

Engines? ..Some of the best and most economical engines the motorcycle world has available are produced in China, as well as a huge range of highly affordable light to heavy industrial engines in use world wide. And that's only one thing among many where China is a leading world producer of items in demand across the globe.

Yea, it's "fun" to poke sticks at those we don't know very well or feel comfortable with in the world marketplace, suggesting that nothing they produce will ever be up to "our standards." But China is a fact of life in every part of our world today, and its high tech industrial base is now number one or poised to become number one in many areas. Virtually nothing we have in our homes or use in our daily jobs is free of Chinese technology. This is an economic "fact of life" across the world, so get used to it 'cause it's not going to change anytime soon.

Whether we can retool ourselves to effectively compete in the world market will be the benchmark history looks back on as most telling.
