Hey everyone, this is my first thread so if I'm posting on wrong section or anything please excuse me. I recently bought a 2006 Tacoma TRD and it had a check engine light, that comes and goes, for a catalyst converter. I did some research on here and read that I should first go about fixing what caused the issue or installing a new converter will go bad again since converters don't go bad without there being an issue upstream. After doing more research I just ended up leaving it alone because the trucks drives great, very smooth and everything. However, recently it has been giving me like a lag when I accelerate from a dead stop or close to a dead stop. It also lagged sometimes driving at a constant speed in the high way but that only happened one day a few times. That same day it shooked kinda bad when I started it it up. Any ideas on what it could be? When I have it on parked and it's idling, with the AC off, it kind a vibrates for 3 seconds then stops for 3 seconds, then shakes or another 3 second and so on. Any help will be very appreciated, thanks a lot

The bad cat is causing your engine to run lean - at least that is my guess.

Do you think that explains the vibration when idling in parked?

    very likely

Short drives can kill catalytic converters - it doesn't have to be an actual mechanical problem. Do you do a lot of short trips, rarely getting the truck up to highway speed for 10+ minutes?

Actually, every drive is a short drive for me. I drive to school, 10 min away, then back, then sometimes to the store, etc. but to answer the question i mostly drive short distances. I need to take the highway to go to school though so that's highway speed. Idk if this matters but truck shakes really bad when I get passed 70 and worsens exponentially as I get passed 70. I think this has to do with my tires though. Shake comes from the front only.

Pull your oil cap. If there's a milky sludge in it, you're not letting the engine get warm enough.

My truck shakes like the shopping cart with that fucked up wheel. I had mud settle in the wheels and then the temps dropped below zero for a couple weeks -the the shit is frozen in my wheels and shaking me like a baby that just won't shut up.

The shacking on my truck happens when it's warm, like after driving it. I'm also in Texas and weather down here hasn't dropped below 50 not once. And it's not a very exaggerated shake, but it's noticeable. I'm talking about the shake when idling not the shake when driving passed 70 by the way. I wonder why it shakes for like 3 second, then stops for another 3 and vice versa

It's the ECU getting confused and trying to correct itself. Again, this is just conjecture, but I think it's the cats
