    That's like asking,
"2nd gen or 3rd gen?"

I'm a pellet pooper guy! Started with a traeger junior. Still $300. I got that and more outta her! My brother still has her after I upgraded.

Not a true smoker by any means, but turns out quality food....I love my Po'Man grill. $130 to my door from Amazon.

Look for a Weber Smokey Mountain 18.5" on Craigslist, you can definitely find one for less than that. Great first smoker, and some guys even use them professionally. Very versatile.

I'd look hard at a Masterbuilt 30 electric smoker. A lot of traditionalists poo poo electrics, they give great results with minimal effort. With a additional smoke generator it's truly a "set it and forget it" type deal.

And there's no problem buying them used unless some fat ass sat on it or something and got it out of round. Used is actually easier because it will already have been seasoned. Plug and play.

Are you a set and forget type of dude or do you like to be involved in the process? No right or wrong way, just depends on who you are.

The smokey mountains may suit you. Once you learn to control the heat, simply throw some wood chuncks on the charcoal and go. I bought a MES 40", but gave it away as an Xmas present. You need an additional smoke generator if you don't want to add chips every 1/2 hour to hour. That means buying a pellet or dust tray and putting it in there.

    So many options.

I've got an L shaped brick wall on 2 sides of my smoker and the side of a fireplace halfway up one side, so it's already in a little cove. It helps quite a bit. I could probably build a neat little door thing that is removable.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
Either buy once and cry once.

    Or get a masterbuilt electric.

My 22" Weber Smokey mountain was $200 new. If you check the clearance stores, you can find some good deals.
