Calm down there tiger. It was a joke.

The products I was talking about were from personal experience. I have not gotten many products that say "Made in China" that were of high quality (including those I mentioned). However, that's not to say they don't make excellent products. The Japanese are great example. To me the same is true of the Koreans (look at Hyundai and Kia - up from the bottom of the barrell).

I am well aware of the fact that currently there is no national economy that can exist without the global economy, and most of this world cannot function without its individual parts and regions (save those that don't enjoy the same level of technology as we do).

As for the Lenovo products, everything I have heard about them (save their second year of production) has been excellent. They are a leader in business level computing technology as IBM was in the 1990's. Personally, I don't have any of their products (because my company provides computers for me), so I cannot attest to anything other than what I am told.

Take it easy - I am not as dumb as you think I am. :D

I have a Dell, and 2 more in the family. Support is decent as long as you know how to deal with them (meaning via online chat to understand them, give them an error code from the Dell Diagnostics, and convince them to just send the replacement part. Or have a tech come install it.)

Lenovo is good. We just sent one out to service and they sent it back Next Day Air or something like that. Total time out and back to our office was less than a week IIRC.

If you plan on fixing it yourself I would absolutely never recommend a mac! Those things are the biggest pain in the ass to repair. We regularly spend over an hour taking out screws to get the hard drive out! Something that's a 2 min job on ANY other laptop. Not to mention the insane assortment of lengths that have to be put back EXACTLY the correct way or something shorts out and fries the computer. Oh, and there's also the annoying part where you get half done with a philips and suddenly need a 4mm nut driver or random torx for 2 F'N screws left holding it together.

For an idea what I'm talking about here's a 23 PAGE guide on removing the logic board for an iBook G4 I just fixed.

I like my little HP, bought it for CAN$800...runs smooth (even with such a big OS like Vista).

Beats the hell outta me. Damn thing won't power up correctly. Went to pull the hard drive to try a new one with a fresh install, and that's what I had to go through. Ended up breaking a socket of the logic board trying to unplug the top cover/power button, and had to continue disassembling it so I could get in and solder the socket back on. Just waiting for super glue to dry so I can attempt to put it back together and try booting. :(

We use ice cube trays to sort out screws to help make this a bit easier.... So far I've needed 2.

Aren't most steel items made with Chinese steel these days? Much of the rusting problem Toyota had with their 1st gen frames was on account of not being properly protected during assembly to withstand wet salty road conditions in certain areas of the world. 1st gen trucks used for example in warm dry desert climates like here in the southwest have had zero frame problems.

It's not so much that the steel in the frames was bad, but that the frames themselves were not properly prepped for harsh conditions during assembly. As I understand it that's a primary reason that Toyota is compensating 1st gen owners and extending frame warranties on affected models.

Throwing rocks at the steel producers instead of at Toyota for lack of adequate prep on 1st gen frames is kinda like blaming the cow when the cheese is left out and turns moldy!

Yeah, and Toyota is saying that problem isn't happening with the 01-04, but I have two buddies that are claiming that they have excessive rust holes on their rigs (Illinois and Northern Colorado). I don't think Toyota changed the process on any of them. Matter of fact - I have no evidence to say they aren't using the same procedures on the 05+. I would love to hear from a factory rep about that. I'm not pointing fingers, but I am curious.

Yeah, I'm a little concerned about that too... I had spot rust on my frame in less than a year... WTF?! I was planning on cleaning it off and hitting it with some undercoating spray one of these days, but I shouldn't have to do that already.

Never once thought you were "dumb" 007, just that leaving a statement such as you made flapping in the wind without challenge would have been "dumb," at least as far as I was concerned! I accept that what you put forward was intended as "a joke," and honestly believe you are quite well informed when it comes to the realities of the world we find ourselves part of.

I just have surface rust. I am told that is normal, but my 07' had none. My wife's RAV4 has an immaculate undercarriage. I think I will be following suit with you on the undercoat, but I am going to wait until I need to make another trip to Colorado, North Carolina, Kentucky, or Virginia...

 This thread is so very off-topic. Sorry, lsocoee!

It is a good thing that Lenovo makes good hardware because their service sucks. The order was placed and 2nd day shipping was specified. It was supposed to be shipped out on the 12th. I check on the order and it now says ground shipping. I called to complain and they informed me that that it was a computer error and that they could expedite my order and that would be quicker than 2 day shipping. I said OK. Earlier this week, I called back about the shipping because I had a feeling they weren't going to ship it early. They informed me that to add 2 day shipping, the order would have to be cancelled and re-submitted and it would be put at the back of the line, so I decided to give them some more time. I've been trying to get the expedited shipping date and they keep telling me that they don't know, but I should try back in two days. I called back today and they finally gave me an updated shipping estimate...August 18th (this was originally Aug 12.) I will give them until this Tuesday to ship the laptop, if it doesn't go out then I'm going to have to cancel the order.
