Many don't understand the meaning of a LIGHT load. When you start your truck and drive right away, too much load will heat the pistons far quicker than the cylinders causing the piston to cylinder clearance to tighten up - possibly to zero causing piston skirt damage or worse.

I run a ScanGuage and always warm up to 38 C. (which is the temp the trucks coolant temp guage comes off bottom) and then drive away using only light load until at or near 83 C. (thermostat opening temp.). Then and only then do I put my foot into it. This is my choice but I intend on keeping my taco for the rest of my driving lifetime.

As for a remote start I am old school there too and choose not to run one. I prefer to listen for any abnormal noises so I sit in it even when very cold in the winter.

 

I'm pretty sure @taczilla 's wife is worth more than a penny or two.

1 - My wife runs at 37.0C, but she's been going through menopause for the past 2 years...
2 - So she runs anywhere from 273.16K and the temperature of the surface of the sun.

I got a fairly simple compustar 2-way with 3k' remotes installed in my Tacoma and T4R. I am happy with them, and the price wasnt as much as I thought it would be. About $260 each installed Best Buy.

 

I'd be happy with just a simple kit that allowed me to keep my current key fob.

Just booked my truck in to get a CODE ALARM remote start installed. Was -12 here this morning on my way in. Next month should be way colder. Looking forward to having it

 

My truck had one installed already when I bought it. It's nice getting into a warm truck in the winter.

 

I second the Avid light bar. I think they changed the name, since it's really a bumper guard with a light bar option.

OP, I wouldn't for a few reasons.
1. extra weight on the front of a 2wd truck. Limited reasons for upgrading front springs. Adding the bumper sort of turns the thing into a self licking ice cream cone.
2. extra consideration when parking. Minor, but can be a factor in urban areas. Try mall crawling with armor
3. your truck is at an age when a catastrophic kill is almost useful as it gives you a reason to get in something new. Mine is two years older then yours. Bambi making the front fall off is an excuse for an upgrade.
4. it would look lame on a non 4wd mini truck. Looks matter man.
