Just a thought. I know some people are handy with steel and welders

Since we are on the subject, do off road bumpers change the tow rating?

    Word.
I have yet to haul anything. Don't even own a trailer.
My interest is the front bumper for now. Already decided, if this option is available when I have the money, I'm going to modify it a little.

I didn't actually put either one of them on the scales but they really arent that much different in weight... maybe 50 pounds or so I would guess but I do have two extra leafs on each side so sag wouldn't be a problem here.

I still think I"m good with my two extra leafs on each side but yah, other might need to think about weight.

I figure maybe this coming summer I'll get some Firestone airbags installed for towing reasons. And an aftermarket receiver as well.

@Blackout14 I'm learning a lot from you right meow actually. I assumed beefing suspension was needed for armor, but didn't realize how crucial

I dont have the extra heavy duty suspension on the front witch is why I'm thinking I'll go aluminum on the front.

    Thanks :).

You want better rear springs if you plan to use your Tacoma as a truck. I like the Dakar pack, but routinely carry 1000 to 1500 pounds. A plate bumper plus a moderate tool box will get the Dakars into their operating range (where the ride is good, and you achieve stated lift, empty the dakars will give more lift, and a hard ride).

Full 1/4" plates only adds 175#, that's a small passenger. A plate bumper is about the same weight again.

So empty your still fine on stock springs. Going to a 650 inch/lb spring will get you back to 'normal' with either. A 700# is good with a heavy bumper and plates.

You're right! I notice a better ride on factory leafs with 4 people and 4 kayaks in the bed than just myself and an empty bed.

someone mentioned that that 175# being out ahead of the front wheels made their front end sag thus making it nose heavy in corners and such... I already have tire rub up front I dont want to make it any worse.
