I was thinking about getting my daughter a topper for her 02 Tacoma 4X4 supercab. She lives high up in the snow country of New Mexico. I'm guessing you have to remove the factory looking hard plastic bed liner? Do you like yours? Worth the price? Visibility cut down?
    Thanks for comments

Has she expressed any interest in them? It would be a pain if you got one for her and she didn't need/want one.

Yes she needs/wants one, she's a skier and needs the bed covered for that and other reasons.

I had a high top topper on my 95 ex cab between window tint, snow and road grime here in Colorado winter I couldn't see out the back, sold it and bought a hard tonnuae cover ,I like it a lot more and feel it is more secure than a topper

Mine is great. I'm thinking about getting backup camera. Visibility is cut down.

You don't need to remove the plastic bedliner, the canopy should go right on top of it.
My canopy is a piece of crap, but it does the job, just have to rely more on mirrors for visibility. I'm not a big fan of the tonneau covers as they reduce your bed space quite a bit, plus you can sleep in the bed with a canopy on.

I'm in the process of looking for one too. Have one permanently on my Ranger and it does cut down on visibility.. I live in the snow too and having the bed full of snow helps with traction but if you want to use the bed, it's a pain to get out if it melted a little and then froze in there. I will take it off in the summer. There are so many out there with options that you just need to do a lot of shopping. For that year you may get lucky and find a nice used one?

I've been looking for a soft topper brand for my Tacoma. I have one for my Tundra presently. I just love it.

I've had hard bed caps for years, ill never go back to a hard cap.

Bought a SnugTop used, did not fit on the bedliner, so sold the bedliner! Got a BedRug instead! Now I can sleep in the bed, and stuff does not slide around.

I was afraid of that too, but with one of those handy bed extenders, I've never had a problem. That was of course driving with it open the whole time so if you're not comfortable with that then you're out of luck I guess...I think they look better personally

softtopper gets my vote. I often need to put something higher than a a regular cap in the bed like a snowmobile or a bike and fooling around with a heavy solid cap is a no go for me.

Had an ARE CX on my 2002. You don't have to remove the bed liner.

You're going to probably spend about a grand for a good one.

I have had an A.R.E. cap for 15 years no issues. If your bed-liner is over the top rail you will need to bolt THRU topper and THRU top rail. I f you have an under-rail bed-liner the clamps work... but need to be retightened after 30 days then annually. If you don't do these things it will eventually wind up on the highway. If you just clamp over plastic it will not hold.
