Toyota will put the bare minimum into the truck that their analysis shows that they can get away with, while maximizing profit margin. This goes for govt regs and customer "demands"

If it was as simple as you say and only a 1-2K upgrade charge, why do you think they haven't done it? To piss you off? No, because they know they can sell the truck at it's current price point and features. Case in point, you still bought one. I'd like to have power seats, better speakers, etc. But again the current Pro doesn't have them. I knew it but still bought it anyway.

Pretty much. It makes its peak HP at redline, but it likes to cruise at 1000-2000 RPMs. So unless you like to rev it way up all the time, everywhere, it's a lot of wasted potential. I'd rather see more power down low and not way up high.

Well I didn't start this thread to get into the marketing of Toyota I'm strictly talking facts and numbers. It makes sense to put it in and it would help the truck that's all. Just seeing who else thinks it would be a good match for the truck.
As to the no they don't have to put it because people will buy it anyway. Well that can be said for every off-road feature on the truck. Why put crawl control, why put terrain management. I'm not disagreeing with any of your business arguments because you're right if the truck is selling then heck they did they're job. But to my original point it would be a good match up and people would pay for it that means something.

With the Chevy Colorado zr2 coming out which on paper it smokes the Tacoma. If Toyota would add the v8 I think it would have the edge over competition Therefore keeping the Taco at the head for years to come.

Not arguing with you but you talk about facts and numbers. How do you know it would cost 1-2k to add the V8 as an option? I'm sure Toyota does it's marketing research. If they saw a significant demand for a V8 in the Tacomas then I'm sure that would be an option and maybe it will down the road. It seems the more realistic scenario would be to offer the diesel available on the Hilux to compete against the twins.

There are legitimate reasons not to do it, but if your argument is "it'll hurt numbers" you're either not buying a third gen or can opt for the other two motor options and allow us to have a V8 in a midsize.

With this ZR2 hype the Tacoma needs to answer or it's losing its monopoly on the midsize market with the issues the 2016s had at launch

    In my opinion.

"The ZR2 will be available with... a 3.6-liter V-6 that produces 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque and pairs with an eight-speed automatic."

That's what the new Taco should have had

As much as we would like to see a v8 option, it just isn't going to happen.

I would not be surprised to see a turbo at some point. People have already said someone (can't remember who) is working on a supercharger.

Towing is such a low priority with Tacoma engineering, Sweers said it himself "(Towing) is, like, 25th on the list".

The 4.6 would be a great tow engine. You'd be in one maybe two higher gears all the time so you'd get better tow mpg, get more miles per tank, just a better more relaxed towing experience (oh, and Sweers, put a bigger fuel tank in it).

The only reason I can see the V8 is if more Taco owners thought towing was high on the needs list. Toyota's marketing surveys says it's not.

An OEM V8 Taco is never going to happen. Forget about it. Emissions regulations do it have room for that and never will.

We're much more likely to see a turbo I4, as so many other (non-truck) manufactures are doing. The good old days are long gone.

The reason Toyota doesn't put the 4.6 in the new Tacoma is because then all you guys would do is bitch that they put a old motor in a new truck. Bitch, whine and moan.

I'm sure you have your reasons but you seem to hate your Tacoma and Toyota in general. Why keep it? One of the best things about living in capitalism is that there are options. Why not buy something else instead?
I just heard someone with a SR5 say the same thing about the OR. See how that works ; )

I wonder if Toyota Corporate ever looks on the forums to get an idea of what enthusiasts really want and the issues everyone is having... they don't need think tanks or customer surveys... just spend a few days in TW.com

"Enthusiasts" are an insignificant line item on their profits sheet. They probably don't even know TacomaWorld exists.
