I put a 3 inch lift on my truck about 2 years ago. I need to start replacing suspension components. Shes got 240k, 80% road usage. I noticed the sway bar had a nasty angle to it and read a thread on using the 4runner/2nd gen tacoma links. I initially tried to install the polyurethane bushings with the angle......nope. So here is what I did. First maint. post on a forum for me so hopefully it wont be too painful to read along.

    Parts List:
    Energy Suspension p/n 8.5117R 26mm kit - $30.15 Amazon w/tax
    NAPA Sway Bar Link p/n 103 2468 - $19.42ea = $41.76 w/tax
Whiskey = "price really doesn't matter when turning wrenches"
    TOTAL= $71.91

As you can see the new ones are a bit longer. (it comes with black rubber bushings)
    20150504_200912.jpg 20150504_201248.jpg
This was the original links when I tried to install the bushings. With the nasty angle, no way was I getting them together. I notice too the links have a very small portion of thread, this makes for a good time.

    20150504_200436.jpg

The removal is really easy. Just spray some PB blaster (or equivalent) and let it sit. I believe it was a 17mm socket with a 2ft breaker bar made it simple. 20150504_205831.jpg
New ones installed. Now I probably wouldn't recommend this for someone who wheels a lot because at full flex the brake line barely touches the link. But I believe yall disconnect them anyway.

Tightening the link, you have to use a Allen key and open end wrench to tighten.

I also had to use a pry bar between the swing arm and frame to press the bottom bushing down just to get the nut on top started. (I was doing this alone so I couldn't take a picture)

And that was really about it. Fairly easy job.

    20150504_210351.jpg
Here is all the old parts. It was time.

Took it for a drive around the block and it does seem a little more solid in the steering. I think I will be pairing this with some OME struts and spring here soon to really make it solid.

I will also be looking into some stainless steel sleeves or something maybe from a performance racing sight just as a secondary precaution, in the event the brake lines start to rub.

    Thanks for reading.

I can't find any extended end links for my 01 Tacoma online. Do they even make any aftermarket ones at all?

I think they make adjustable, been looking too but usually they are north of $125 and for me right not aren't worth it.

They have a variety of $70-$125 adjustable end links at energy suspension but I went with the cheaper route and bought a sway bar drop kit from 4 crawler.

This is awesome, I will be heading to NAPA today to pick these up... they are $24 each now... My end links keep eating up all the bushings I install, so my question is since the link is longer does that have any effect on everyday driving?

Sway bar will work better and bushings will last longer. I'd say that was a good effect.

    Quick question:

I put a 2" OME lift on my truck... think I should go with the longer end links? I read that thread on ttora and this one... both of you guys have a 3" lift.

The angle of my stock ones right now are not that bad.

Yo dude. I just got a throw a shout out to you on a five-year-old write up. Just went to Napa, used your post for the part number. Price came up 29.99. I said “well it says $19.42 on Tacoma world”, he gave them to me for $17.22 each!

Man really liked this solution. The search continues... Maybe I will look at the 2nd gen or 4Runner option

Why? Your Tacoma was designed to use what you have on there. I still have my stabilizer bar on the truck and use the exact same end link part number it came with. No issues.

The OP had a 2000 taco, those end links are different from what’s on yours. Completely different design.

    skip it.

Area, okay I wasn't sure since I have read posts on this site talking about the OG end links too short and binding after lifting the front end. Mine seem to be okay and just thought I would ask the experts

I'm no expert by any means lol. Just sharing my thought on replacing it. Then again, its not that expensive. Could always try it and see how it feels/handles on whatever conditions you put your truck in. If it works for you, cool if not and you're not happy with it you're not out that much cash.

Also, your PreRunner uses part# 4881104110 (stabilizer bar). The 2000 taco uses part# 48811AD010. Two different part numbers and possibly designed differently. I can't be certain since I don't have the two to compare side by side but the part#s are different. Also note that toyota shows it doesn't fit on anything after a 2001.

So what does this mean? Maybe those longer end links might put added stress on the stabilizer bar or other components? I really don't know. Worth pointing out though. Good luck.

I looked at them again and think I should be fine. Will be replacing the sway bar bushings and end link bushings as well.

Probably do the steering rack bushings at the same time if everything goes well.

Next on the list is upper and lower control arm bushings
