Cute new pup. They are fun, but little stinkers. First they steal your heats, then your bed..

@mizzac - Pup will not be allowed on furniture. Going to crate train her. Furniture is for humans and she'll have to learn that she's the Omega in the pack. She serves us, not the other way around.

I had a dog that slept on the bed once. Never again. Waking up against the wall with the dead weight of a dog next to you isn't fun.

I had planned that, but admittedly I'm weak. Dus ty is pretty good tho, he gets on the couches which doesn't bother us as they are worn leather already. He knows when it's bed time to go to is crate, in the morning when either I go to work and my gf doesn't have to or vice versa he gets spoiled and lays there with us.

My pup is figuring things out quickly. She knows the "go potty" command after less than 2 days. And she's taking to her kennel, somewhat. This morning when I told her it was time to go outside she got in her kennel to hide. LOL She hates going out in the cold I think. Can't blame her - tiny pup (at 25lbs) and sub zero temps and all.

Just feel bad for her. She's been in her kennel this 9am this morning and won't get a break until I let her out at 6:30 when I get home. So she'll probably need to potty pretty dang bad.

Yeah I don't get that ability. It's a 20+ minute drive each way. I can't leave work for an hour every day.

Our slow and my boss is lienient so i can sneak away easily. Still an inconvenience but not a terrible one.

Just got a call back on a obedience class we will start in January. This is a clicker based one. Looking forward to trying it, I have thought of getting a shock/training collar but don't want to until I see how this goes. He answers and behaves well but would be nice to have the shock collar if we are outdoors and he is running free.

I have some experience with the e-collars, and I know quite a few folks that do, so if you need some pointers (pardon the pun) let me know.

You can wait. It all starts with positive reinforcement and E collars can come a bit later.

It's actually an extension of positive reinforcement. Not everyone sees it that way because they have images of 220 coursing through a dog, but it really is.

My two only need tones now. Rarely if ever a correction.

To be fair, if you're going to use a shock collar, try it on yourself first. At least it'll create some empathy in you with what the dog will be enduring. Physiologic differences may be present and prevent an exact duplication of sensation.

When I tried it a long time ago, after my personal test, I couldn't/wouldn't put the collar on my dog. I do understand that the newer units have variable levels of shock and that could make a difference.
