I currently have State Farm insurance and for some reason my premium keeps going up. No tickets or accidents. Anyone have any advice for a better insurance company at better rates? I have also been told however that you pay for what you get. Thanks in advance!

I work for an insurance company and I can still say that insurance is a commodity for the most part. Most policies cover the same thing and unless you go with a company that nobody has ever heard of, they will all have the money to pay your claim when the time comes.

Besides the vehicle, there's a lot that goes into an insurance rate and it varies from company to company. Half of your rate or more is based on you, your household, your geography, etc. Get 4 or 5 different quotes and go with the cheapest one AFTER you read a sample policy and make sure that there aren't any exclusions that apply to you.

I understand. I am only 21 but female and no tickets or accidents. Jumped up almost 30 bucks a month. Starting to get annoyed.

I think the smarter route is shop for insurance brokers that represent the A+ insurance companies instead of going directly to the insurance websites. Those small business insurance firms want your business so they won't quote crazy premiums. Wife's car has Mercury w/ full coverage 100k,250k,100k policy @ $100/month. For my car I have metromile insurance with a 250k,500k,250k policy with a base $43/month + 6.5cents per mile. Because I don't drive too much I pay about $77 a month and once in a while up to $120 in a month when I drive a lot and I have to try really hard to get to that amount.

Any time your rates go up, you should shop, as you will frequently find cheaper rates as some one is looking to grow by focusing on picking up numbers at a lower rate. But the kicker is, the longer you stay with an insurance company is sometimes used to determine rates. It's also my understanding that you should shop new insurance every 5 years or so.

Why they make it like this, who knows. It should be find a good company, you stay with them, they work to keep you as a customer. This just must be the way they have figured out how to keep jacking up rates.

Shop around and drop their ass. We had them for over 10 years and they were steady going up every year. There is no loyalty. Find another reputable company with better rates.

From my experience State Farm is always higher than other companies.

Use an independent agent or two. Ones that can write for a different pool of companies. That way you get lots of options with 2 phone calls. Even AAA functions as an independent agent, but using 5 carriers........

As has been said, many factors come into play, but shopping still matters.

On a side note, you can thank 'women's lib' for part of your costs. Under 25 males, single, not in school, used to be the high cost, and under 25 females about 1/2 their males.

Over the last 25 years or so (longer than you are old) female driving statistics have hit the crapper, and they are about the same risk level as males.

Remember it's not only 'your' driving record, it's the demographic you are in. High risk, high cost. Like old people and medical insurance. You think it's high now, get a couple moving violations, cause an accident, or get a DUI........ you'll really see high.

Did you just get your truck? Tacomas are considered sport trucks. And will be more $ than most other trucks.

Yeah but unless your vehicle's cash value goes up (never happens) and your driving record remains unchanged, your monthly rate should not change, even worse, increase.

Maybe the fact that now you can legally drink gets factored in....

My rates went down by a small amount when I picked up the 3rd gen. Keep in mind this is a brand new vehicle (never owned brand new til this one). Current rate is lower than my previous 3 cars - 2009 Accord, 2004 M3 (of course its lower than this lol), 2015 Mazda 6.

    $250 deductible :D

I am an independent insurance agent/broker. When someone calls and asks for quotes I do the shopping for them. Each company has different rating factors that will effect how they determine your premium. I bet there is a cheaper option out there for you that can match the coverages you currently have.

State Farm pricing is typically higher but they try to sell you on the "relationship" and value of all of the extra stuff they can offer you.

    insurance is a scam...

if they pay out too much one year, they raise rates. if you have an accident, they raise rates. if the wind blows from the south, they raise rates.

No she's saying that after owning the truck, the premium started to go up month over month...

Lets assume that her first month she paid $100. And after owning the truck for 3 months, they decide to start charging her $130 month instead.

I had State Farm for over 20 years and then bought a house with a pool. I had auto, home and a $2mil umbrella policy. The proposed premium went up 25%. I'm at Country now, but shop about every other year. Right after switching, I was in an accident. The other driver only had $25k in liability. I had $1mil in under insured coverage and had to sue my own carrier for $250k to cover my damages. Get more under insured that you think you need. Lots of people out there piloting 4,000 pound weapons with minimum insurance.

Call them and ask why it's going up.
Had the same thing happen with my company. Turns out they uped my annual mileage which upped my premium. Got it fixed and my premium was back to normal.

As others have said shop around.

The question is, how did your annual mileage go up? Just testing to see if you would notice?
