thanks for the input. i may DL techstream and mess with it on my PC to make sure it's no or low risk. i have a strong guess that Carista cannot remove that boot/splash screen i'm talking about. it is the dealer's name & logo, and they screwed up the deal right at the end of my purchase and i want to unremind myself of their existence.

i used VCDS and VAG-COM on my R32 so i'm not afraid of a technical PITA. but i definitely will scan it 20 ways to be more sure it's not a risk for my truck.

    thank you again!

@St.Germain I bet if you go to a different dealer for your first / next service they'd be more than happy to remove their competitors splash screen at your request...

and I've not been following closely. Are you positive they didn't just load a Customized Startup Image as per pages 60 and 61 if your Navigation system owners manual? That's trivial to check and see and change on your own.

@Joe23 and @dYLOn thanks for the input. Was looking to see if either could do the vip alarm activation as well as tpms functions.

Oh and @Joe23 thanks for reminding me I used to have a rosstech vag tool for my 01 Wolfsberg used to beon vwvortex as well...lol

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
Am I correct to assume both of these can reset the TPMS sensors?

I've emailed carista a few time's asking about it.
Carista as of right now cannot do TPMS.
You'd need the whole TIS software for that.

Im a Beta tester for Carista and the version we're working with right now has the ability to work with TPMS. Not sure when new version will be released.

Carista can not activate the VIP alarm. See above post for TPMS.

I just got Carista and tried it for the first time yesterday to find out a 2015 Tacoma isn't supported. Before I set this thing on a fence post and shoot it, am I doing something wrong? Was there a different one I was supposed to buy?

Try again. It's not uncommon to get this prompt when using for the first time.

You're asking to compare 2 completely different tools. Carista is an OBDII reader with a (shitty) app, trying to be what Torque is and failing. TIS techstream is a full diagnostic and maintenance programming tool.

Mine still doesn't like a 2015 Tacoma, which I believed would work. What an I doing wrong here? I tried to put it in as a 2016 even and it gave me the same message. Others have used this and it's worked fine.

Click the "report problem" and explain what's going on. The owner/founder's name is Todor. He'll get back to you via email (quickly).

Thanks, I sent an email. I just think mine isn't supported for customization afterall which baffles me.

Toyota TIS Techstream is the full OEM program by Toyota itself. Why fool with program imposters, like Carista?

For the heck of it, I went ahead and ordered one of the cables and CD from ebay and tried but did not work. After messaging seller he will refund my payment. This is what seller said about using the cable.

"After checking,it seems that your original car companies has encryption settings for your car model, so it is not allowed others to read their external code.
How about we send a prepaid shipping label to you?
You return the product for a refund.
Then we will issue refund to you after we get the returned package.
    Waiting for your reply!
    Best Regards,"

Anyone have luck with using anythine else?

For the record, I did email Carista about not being able to customize anything on a 2015. They replied that it is NOT supported. Which is something I should have really looked into to begin with. I read umpteen threads about people using it so I assumed it would work with mine. WRONG. So it's getting returned to Amazon and I'll have to live with the nanny chime for the time being or try this Tech Stream deal.

Mine works, it did take some time setting up the driver. They have a firmware update utility that can be finicky.

But it works for me. My laptop is running Win 7 Ultimate. I ordered off Amazon.
