Tranny Amsoil Severe Gear oil problems

I purchased my tacoma in April 2009, 85,000 miles. I replaced the oil in the diffs, transmission, and transfer case with Amsoil severe gear 75-90. Everything has been fine till it got cold. When shifting between gears it seems I need to do it slower otherwise it either shifts hard or grinds the gears. Do other people have problems with this oil in the cold? What should I do to fix it?

I crawled under the truck today to see where the trany oil level was at because the drain plug leaks a tiny bit. I took the fill plug out and oil started to come out. I thought it was weird so I let it continue to drain from the fill hole. I gave it 15 minutes. I looked at the oil that came out and there was air bubbles in it. I know this is not good. Do I need to add an anti-foaming agent to the oil? or change it out and use another brand? Any info will help.; Thanks

 

I always used Redline MT-90 in my '03 and it helped a lot with shifting. Contrary to Chris' comments, I always overfilled by a half cup or so as it supposedly helped get the oil up into the synchros. From my own experience and many others I've read, they're overfilled a bit from the factory anyway.

 

I just put in 3 quarts in my 08 and the shifting characteristics have altered, idk if in a bad way but they have changed.

 

Chris4x4. Do I drain out what I have and refill it with 1.9 qts? Will this fix the issue?

 

I picked up some Reline MT-90 today for the tranny. $10/qt not bad considering the dealer wanted $21/qt in bulk. I will be changing out the oil this weekend.

I was wondering if a GL-5 is ok for the transfer case? I have read other posts that say GL-5 oils break down the bronze synchros, is this true?

How many quarts of oil and what kind do I use the change the front and rear differentials??

Hey kinda new to TW. I'm thinkin about doing the front, rear, and TC as well. I used amsoil when I had my ford. Do you see any major differences in your taco? I have a 2006 trd sport

 

I just did all mine this spring and replaced some standard, cheap reg oil all around with mob. 1 synth and noticed an immediate difference. Easier shifting, about a 2 mpg better average, overall just seems much smoother. Just be warned, old gear oil STINKS, change it outside!

 

Looking at the Amsoil application guide I think you should have used
Amsoil Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube

75W-90 (GL-4).. in the transmission.

They mention that the Server Gear GL-5 lube is to slippery for use in manual transmissions.

That's what I have in mine. The GL-4. I had the Redline MT-90 in there before and I haven't been able to tell the difference between the two. Fast shifting just isn't what these tranny's were designed for. I've got the GL-4 in the transfer case as well. I put the 75-110 in the front and rear diffs. I don't see where the difference between the 90 and 110 will ever come into play unless I go somewhere where it is really hot or start towing but it will be ready if i do.
