The C-Clip is the way the axle connects to the differential. My Ford had an 8.8" C-Clip Rearend. Not the best axle Ford ever produced. The typical failure point on those axles was usually the C-Clip connection. If it broke there was nothing to hold your axle inside the housing.

I think the model you're looking for should be the ARB RD129- Fits Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Tundra, Toyota T100 Non-electric locking differential 8.4" 30 spline axle - All gear ratios.

Welcome home, did you get to do any cool touristy stuff while you were there, or just froze your ass off for two weeks?

only clunked the one time, both sides though. I'm hoping it had something to do with ice, but i'll be checking lots of bolts tonight anyway...
that's my suspicion as well. but I'm thinking if I want it covered under warranty i'll need to return the suspension to stock...

I can't stand other people working on my vehicles...

Mine just started the cyclic grind last week too. I'm regearing in Feb/Mar and getting the ECGS bushing, so I'm probably just going to turn the radio up until then.

4.56 because my understanding is 4.88 has a weaker pinion.

I think it adds an extra tooth on the pinion, which makes the teeth thinner and removes a significant amount of metal from the pinion as well.

With 35's would 5.29 be an option?

Does anyone even make 5.29s for our housings? Also I drive over 40mph regularly. 4.56 is already slightly over geared for these trucks with 35s.

We worked our ass off but I got out some too. Went to Luxembourg including the American military cemetery, spent an evening in Triar, went to Bitburg, and a couple random restaurants and a whole Lotta beer. I've never been one to buy souvenirs, but I couldn't pass an opportunity to pick these up

Since the circumference of the ring does not change, the higher the ratio the smaller the circumference of the pinion = fewer number of teeth on the pinion = smaller surface contact between ring and pinion = skinny pedal puts same power across fewer teeth.
