Aftermarket Blower Assembly - What is best?

I see lots of write ups on the blower fans for the 2nd Gens but not much for the 1st Gens.

Background - Little over a year ago, I removed the blower assembly because it was making some noise. Thought for sure a pine needle or leaf would be in it like when I had my old Mustang. Nothing, but it was filthy. The plastic cage was black with built up dust and what appeared to be soot from the electrical contacts. Like many on here, I could not remove the cage, so I took a toothbrush and scrubbed the fins with warm soapy water. Also took electrical contact cleaner and sprayed inside the housing. Again, a boat load of black residue.
Afterwards I put a small amount of "weapon shield" solvent/oil on the shaft. This cured the problem for about a year, but the "squeak/chirp" noise returned.
I decided the original fan had served me well, so I wanted to go ahead and purchase a new one. I first purchased the TYC 700059 Blower but it was as noisy or noiser as the old one.
So, last week, I installed the Diften 615-A0598-X01. Again, not much difference.
I'm to the point now, I may just order the OEM fan and be done with it.
Anyone else with experience on an aftermarket fan assembly?

I bought one on Amazon I'm perfectly happy with. I'll see if I can get the exact model

 

The one I bought says universal bm2727C, was a tight fit, but works fine, is relatively quiet and moves plenty of air

I went with a NAPA 2 years ago. Im happy with it.

 

Jon, do you remember the model #, etc. I only see two listed on Napa's website. One is around $60 and the other is $130 which is more than the oem one.

In case someone is looking for the model numbers from NAPA.

 

Mine started squeaking a few years back, so I took it out and cleaned it up. I knew the bearings were probably bad, but I cleaned it up and dripped some tri-flo in the bearings to just see if I could do a $0 fix. And it worked! For a while...

Now it sounds like the squeak is back, so I'll probably head over to Rockauto.com to order a new one... There's one for $35 without the fan blade.

Can you remove the plastic cage on yours? I was able to remove the small metal clip on the front of the cage, but couldn't get the plastic cage to budge.

i put some WD40 on it. Then had my brother hold the squirrel cage and i popped it with a punch and hammer.

 

Probably won't do anything until after the new year, I'm already planning on replacing my timing belt next week...

But I'd get any one of the ones on the link I posted. Probably lean towards the one with the blower fan, just so I don't have to check and make sure my current one is damaged first. Would be a burn if I order the one without the fan, then take it apart and find the fan is cracked...

But, that link is for a 2004, your 2003 might be a bit different, but that's easy enough to check on rockauto...

 

Bringing a thread back from the dead. I installed the NAPA blower today (BK 6552703) $63 with online discount. Metal body, made in Canada, feels quality. Installed without problems. Blows more air than the original but the original was 14 years old. I'm happy with it and I'll see if this one lasts 14 years.

I could have saved a little money with the eBay or Amazon blowers. They look more OEM but 1. I wanted to finish this today and 2. I have had generally good luck with NAPA products.

Yep. That is it. It does look a little different but the fit was perfect. Just remember to look in the box for a plastic air vent. I installed mine and was about to throw out the box when I noticed a plastic "L" shaped piece. I really thought that it was for looks but it helps direct air across the motor.

 

I bought a 4seasons brand blower motor off rockauto a few weeks ago and it's working perfect so far

 

Just took apart my hvac over the last couple days - look what I found:



I'm not sure if it's just my truck, but Toyota missed a good idea by not putting a cabin air filter in the HVAC. I got to this by just doing some general cleaning since I was tracing wires from the cruise control that I wanted to uninstall. It seems like it would go hand in hand with a new motor to clean out this stuff that is restricting airflow. It sits right where the fan blows into.

To get to this point I already had the main dash panel off and removed the blower motor housing. It might be possible to do even with the main dash in the truck.



I also redid the weak foam seals with this stuff:



It fit the seams well width wise and made a much tighter seal.



The foam in the blend door was falling apart so I hosed it off. I started to cut out some new foam to coat it, but it sealed pretty tightly and since I live in sunny Southern California I don't have to worry about a lot of cold air getting in when I don't want it to and I almost never use AC...

I washed the blower motor with a powerful spray bottle and piping hot water making it rotate like a water wheel while I held a big tray under it. Came out pretty clean. I anticipate some better airflow and hopefully quieter operation.

to this. The red and green ovals mark a connector and a copper colored bracket that I removed when re-installing the blower housing. If I did it again I'd remove them before removing it to make it way easier to get out. The plastic that holds the connecter had a plastic plug that goes into the sheet metal that wouldn't come out without too much of a fight so I cut it with a razor knife so there was still a hole in it I could zip tie it through to the sheet metal...
