We had two 2wd trucks with us, they both did the water crossing just fine...it wasn't very deep and the bottom was smooth. I think the only sketchy part we did for the 2wd's was the sand dunes area, but even that wasn't too bad...the sand looked soft but was nowhere near as soft as Pismo. Just had to keep momentum.

I can only imagine how crazy dangerous it would be to go out onto that dry lake bed if a storm came in or had just hit recently, I'd say the whole trail is 2wd friendly but you should definitely be with a 4x4 or 2 just in case.

There's a bypass several miles back if you want to skip the water crossing, but apparently it cuts out a good chunk of the trail. We were going to take it until we realized that. I think you'd end up missing the canyons

@eon_blue and the rest of you mojave mobberz. Nice photos. Happy to see the frog we put down was still there. Smart move to pack all your rigs tight and keep your tents close together to protect from the elements. Was that Mojave Camp on night 2?

yeah that was the 2nd night, we learned after the first night lol. Though the second night was less cold, nothing was frozen when we woke up.

That's 2n02 I think? They call it ant hill or something. If you're not needing a recovery from time to time you're not trying hard enough, right?

Respek. My pal had an Rtic cooler with him when we did that trail. Wasn't as cold as your trip but the water in his cooler also froze solid. That Vaseline tip I gave you may not have sounded too bad at the time, eh? Lol. It is messy but if things get bad you do what ya gotta do. Skin to skin spooning works, too. But what happens out in the bush stays in the bush. I did cold weather training in the Navy. My partner during that exercise amd I still don't talk to each other about it. Lol. Stoked you all had a good time. Those are memories for life.

The very beginning and the towards the end are probably the only areas where anyone can get stuck (assuming conditions are dry). The beginning creeps up super fast and before you know it, if you didn't air down just off the main road, getting stuck is very possible. Respek.

That was Seventeen Mile Point. We were coming around the corner and saw this site set up close to the rocks. It was a great spot:thumbsup: Mojave camp might be the best campsite we saw but it was too windy there.
 1st night night was the coldest camping night I have ever had. Getting up to take a piss at 4am was the worst.lol Thanks for sharing your maps. The one with campsites listed was very helpful.

I wish I had brought the vaseline not only for that, but to help my skin in general...woke up this morning and my entire face is dry and chapped from the wind, cold and campfires. And I have a date tonight, fuck...lol.

He was heading out there with his girlfriend (she looked like a supermodel and had a European accent), the were going to the Lava Tubes. You could tell she was pissed, haha. Mike saved their day with his winch. He was about to have a mechanic come out that he had called that wanted to charge them $400 for a tow.

That road going out there isn't too bad, there were a couple SUVs and a minivan parked at the Lava Tubes. There's a dirt road that cuts straight there from the highway, but there are a couple spots that are pretty sandy.

    Check Build thread
We were rolling down the trail and they flagged mike down in the front so we pulled up.. they said they were stuck when they were trying to check out the lava tube caves and that they had been there for about a hour before we showed up

First night was pretty cold, second night was great! My sleeping bag and buddy heater did great:D

I bet she wanted to leave with you guys after.... gotta keep low profile tires on the pavement!
I'm planning to do this trip next year with a group. I'm 2WD though. The rest of the others are 4x4 with fully built rigs. I guess I can get pulled :).
