Live Free or Die...think not

I'm looking at all these amazing trucks on TW and am planning my mods and am wondering if anyone from New Hampshire has had a hard time getting inspected after lift/tires. The NH law says bumpers cannot be higher than 20" which is ridicilous. Looking at all of the state lift laws, NH is by far the most stringent which is surprising. Tires cannot be past original fender lines at all. I see all these beautiful trucks that have rear bumpers that must be wayyy higher than 20". I'm sure it varies shop-to-shop with how strictly these laws are enforced. Just wondering if anyone's had any issues with this...

 

Just because its the law doesn't mean that people/shops won't do it. You just have to understand that you can get a ticket if your bumper is over 20" or your tires stick out past the fender.

 

jersey is 9" above stock with tires no larger than 38"s. any shop will do the work,its wether or not you will pass the dmv tilt test.also here i believe under 4" lift and you do not need the test. tires cannot stick out past the body or fender flares.

 

That's the thing...I'm not worried about finding a shop to do the install. I'm worried about getting it inspected every year.

What kind of state limits what you can do with your vehicle? As long as it passes emission then what do they care if it's lifted past certain point?

Sounds like you need to get out the peoples republic of YOU STATE HERE and find the freedom you are entitled too...

 

here in pa its........30" to bottom of bumper and all the other stuff u said.there is ways around it though.alot of people throw on there stock tires and wheels to get it inspected.cat and mouse game i guess.

 

I got a $35 dollar ticket for a modified exhaust on my tC. Mass is the worst. We cant modify the exhaust to be louder than stock. AND THATS UP TO THE COPS DISCRETION.

 

So youre saying if you want to illegally or unsafely mod your vehicle the government shouldnt be allowed to stop you? Say I dont like the look of the red tail lights and I wanna nightshade the hell out of them so that theyre virtually impossible to see through, the state has no right to limit that?

sorry do not know anything about the bumper law but does a bump count? Hope you are able to get the inspection past with your mod...

 

Thanks...we'll see! I'll just have to make sure I don't go too big with lift or tires. Sad because I do love the look w/wheel spacers and the tires out past the fenders a 'lil bit.

 

Here the bumper can't be more than 2 above stock height. It's a retarded law, but whatever. Basically no one here knows about it because no one ever gets stopped for it.

 

I wanna see them try it on me. You didn't cut cats or exhaust did you? Can't imagine that, most exhausts are 49 state legal at least (guess the 50th?). I hate this state, but at least I'm not registered in it. No smog checks, no emissions, still tempted to cut out both cats, truck runs plenty clean without them.

It's not about whether "they" care or not. It's the law so you either abide by it, deal with being hassled, or move. I chose to move (I'm orig from NJ) to a state that actually understands what freedom is but not everyone has the ability to do that.

My advice is, stay within your states laws. It's just not worth the hassle IMO and I'm someone who did all kinds of things like that when I was younger (like tinted windows in NJ for example, a BIG no no).

 

Who is to say that a legal mod is a safe mod. You are assuming in your statement that something being legal means it's is safe and "illegal" is unsafe. When in fact that assumption is not true, many people have safely lifted their trucks higher than the OP's state regulation and not caused a problem. Conversely people have not lifted their trucks and still been in fatal accidents in the state. You missed the point of what I was trying to say, I was talking about legality not safety. That being said, there are plenty of things you can legally do that are not safe in this world, so you point really is irrelevant.

Obviously completely blacking out a stopping indicator should be within the laws power to cite someone for this practice as it is unsafe, but you attempt to bring in the radically extreme is interesting. How does lifting a truck and blacking out a tail light have anything to do with each other?

I don't think that a state should have that much power to regulate an individual as they do have in the OP location. It's called freedom, hard to know what it's like when it's different in another country that is more restrictive in it's policies. This is not a slam against Canada, but an observation of fact. America is known for having more liberties and freedoms than most places, so when I hear that someone wants to lift their truck but can't because of some city or state law. That sends red flashers off in my head and I think someone has abused their power. It's wrong and should be changed, the end. I live in a state, Arizona, that has no such law and we don't have problems with "unsafe" modified vehicles, so why is the OP's state so different?

Like I said, Canada is different. Your way of thinking is different and I respect that, but I don't think attacking what someone said is really the best way to get you point of view across.

 

man GA would be RICH if they ticketed every truck that didnt meet this restriction! ive only heard of one person getting in trouble for their lift height...but he was runnin 52" michelins on a 94 yota!!

 

wow. But yea, every truck in Fannin County would be illegal basically.
