most of the time if the frame is screwed they just total the vechile. Just talk to the adjuster when he comes out. My guy was cool when I tootaled my car. the radiator was smashed into the engine and I said you know the engine will never run right and he said he know b/c his mom had the same thing and wished they would have totaled it. so who knows man

Well..if you decide to get another one, the media and the gov't are trying daily to get you a better deal on them.

I bought mine on 1/2/10--I wish I would have waited until like 2/15/10.

Damn! Glad you're OK... You rode that rail like Tony Hawk! It's probably totaled... That would be my guess since you mentioned quite a bit of damage... Good luck with the insurance!

Not true of all Insurance Companies. I am an adjuster for a large carrier. For us its a straight objective dollar for dollar scale repair vs. total. If its more cost effective for us to fix your truck then your looking at a month in the body shop. If we think its going to cost us more to fix it than pay you, take the truck, and send you on your way then we total it. Now I cant see the damage but even to most minor body work adds up fast. However I could write a used tranny and a full used frame on the truck and be under 4k there depending on part costs. So looking at your truck as I see it, it could be a fixer. I would just have to write a sheet and crunch the numbers.

....However having a tacoma and trying to find used parts to tinker on myself from time to time I know that Tacoma LKQ parts are rare so they might have to write OE frame and tranny and that would kill the truck.

75% is common for most insurance companies. A couple of things to keep in mind is that if you have a rental car the insurance company is paying for, you can add that to the estimate towards the 75%. There are cases where you can get it totalled if it is less than 75%, but you have to know the right people. My last truck was just totalled and it was at 69%, but I had to jump through some hoops to get it totalled. Plus it all depends on the insurance company you are using as well.

My company doesnt do that with the rental. We dont use it in our break even usually because Rental is a seperate line coverage purchased in addition to Collision. However if the customer wants the veh totalled we might use the rental if it will push it over the edge. He is right though. Im gonna give you inside info. IF YOU COMPLAIN YOUR WAY UP THE LADDER WITH ANY INSURANCE COMPANY CONCESSIONS DO GET MADE. Managers dont want to lose a customer over a few hundred dollars.

You're right about the seperate line item in addition to Collision. My agent is the one who told me that, but he may be mistaken or they could have added it like you said on helping to push it over the edge.
