@Iggy. Been looking at this for the rear rather than locking and regearing the factory axle. Now if only Dynatrac or Currie got off their ass and build an ABS compatible FRONT axle for the Tacoma, things might move along a bit sooner.

Sorry for the accident, Nate. Your experience reminds me of the Jeep I ran into nose down, off the trail at 9'000 in the Eastern Sierra this summer. I'm glad you're safe. That's the most important takeaway. Look forward to your rebuild. Nick.

 

How did you have time to take all that off before the insurance showed up?

Or was the insurance okay with you taking some time to take it all off and swap with OEM parts?

Man that's pure beef! It's not a bad price considering it's complete. The bare Ruff Stuff is almost the same price I think.

Does the sport have he same front wheel sensors as the OR, or that only with ATRAC?

Although it's sucks your truck got wreck, it can be replaced. People can be replaced on the other hand. Glad you made it out for sure! On to bigger and better things with V 2.0!

 

For a rollover with a RTT I'm surprised how well the tent and rack held up. Glad to hear your alright man and excited to see the new beginning

I would say talk to your insurance company and adjuster. That's what I did. Truck was totaled near Reno and was taken to a local tow yard that deals with the insurance company. Given all the parts on the truck and a whole mess load of camping equipment and tools I was carrying, I asked if I could take it back to California. They said I can do whatever I want with it since it's my truck till they deliver payment.

Just talk to them and they should be able to help you out. That's what I did and followed their instructions on what you can/can't do.

 

I'm not sure about the front wheel sensors. But I hope SOMEONE figures it out. As for that rear axle, considering the cost of an ARB, regear and install, I'd say that's a viable option.

Some things will definitely be bigger on the next build! More beef is what I'm leaning towards.

Ha! They look like they held up, but they were totally jacked up. The RTT acted like a giant cusion and absorbed a lot of the energy but it transferred it all through the rack mounting points so the roof was effed up and caved in pretty good. But I'd say it definitely helped!

Recently took a short trip to Death Valley and tested out the camper shell. We slept in it for two nights and it was nice and cozy in there. Just opened up the windows enough to get ventilation and we were set. Nothing crazy during the trip, just there for the sight seeing. Took a drive through Titus Canyon. I'll try and get those photos up soon.

How's it feel to drive a stock truck again

 

I find myself going a lot faster now. Not a good thing... Must be something about that TRD Sport model, or the non functional hood scoop... but I don't feel the speed like I did in the other truck. Even with the heavy foot I'm still getting way better gas mileage than I ever did when the Off-Road I had was stock. Best I've gotten with this one was 22 mpg's on the highway. Even hauling ass around town it's 18/19. I don't get it. Only difference is one year newer and the Sport vs OR so no rear elocker.

Me too. A lot of the stuff will be redundant and a mirror image of the last, but the rear bed area will be a major project when it comes to the storage system I'm brewing in my head. The hard shell has me coming up with different ideas. I really wanted to stay with the Softopper again, but with the new job, I needed a bit more security with locking stuff in the rear. Not that I ever had issues with that before, but just a little more peace of mind.
