Something tells me there was some air time involved with that failure

@Gaunt596 I tink you're right. I think it may have happened when I was chasing Ken in the Mojave, and I took that ramp too fast in the whoops section.

At least your cams didn't slip and flatten the cam tabs

My cam tabs were all flattened out in fall 2015. I had them chiseled off and total chaos chromoly reinforced tabs welded on. Since then, alignment has always held off road.

I wonder if this was a case of the reinforced cam tabs simply moving the failure to the next weak link.

Most likely. I'd just get another set, as a stronger bolt will move that failure point to an expensive and hard to replace part

    2016 Year end Review

Well another year has almost past. My truck saw a lot of changes in 2016. The biggest-most-rewarding updates for me were sound-proofing the interior, the On-board-air system, rear bumper, 4-runner wheels, and alum tailgate skin, frame plating, leaf spring rebuild. And right now I'm balls deep in a front end rebuild. :)

Of course, there were numerous trips and adventures with the truck, and it performed admirably every time. Reflecting back, I thoroughly enjoyed twice, meeting face-to-face with friends from this forum in the Mojave. And my family trips, twice in the Eastern Sierra, Anza-Borrego, and the King of desert parks, Death Valley.

That is what I enjoy, and value most. Friends and family, my relations. The truck is just my hobby, and a means to an end. I've enjoyed sharing the trips and build with everyone on TW.

It was a terrific year and I'm grateful for everything.

As it happens on TW, there are some 'contests' going on right now. One of them is for Build of the year, or Build thread of the year, not sure which it really is. All-in-all it seems to me like a popularity contest. Be that is it may. There are vendor prizes at stake which may help me finish my build, (skids, front bumper are build goals). Any vendor pledges I receive, but can't use will be donated or go to charity.

Hence, I'd like to ask you for your vote.

Please copy, and paste my build thread link (below).

    Spindles are done!

    I blame @nfs257 . :D lol. Thanks a million, Chris!!!. @lembowski , too! Thanks!

Design and fabrication by "The Truck Shop" in San Diego, cost was $250. Less than 24 hour turnaround! If you're interested in them, contact them by phone (858) 408-0314, and ask for "James"

The design retains sway bar, and can run stock wheels AFAIK. Best feature IMO, is super strong. All the benefits and no shortcomings when compared to other aftermarket spindle gussets. In my opinion it's the next best thing to a fully fabricated spindle. Maybe it's even better, since it retains factory spec part. Right now I'm super glad to have them.

I had to grind a weld with Dremel on both spindles to get my caliper to bolt flush.

I had to make a slight modification to the wheel speed sensor bracket, and brake line bracket.

Very easy and minor inconveniences in exchange for very strong design.
