Well, has the Limited Service Campaign for Frame Rust Replacements that ended on March 30th been extended? I doubt it.
Does this settlement announced today set new parameters for review and replacement or frames? I think yes.
I'd wait for the announcement letters that (just a guess) Toyota will be required to send to all registered owners with more details.

So i take it mine was inspected last year by previous owner, should i try to bring it in again? it does have some surface rust on the frame that could potentially get worse!

12 years should re qualify most 2005 Tacoma's. Some early ones might be past 12 years since they were initially sold. I'd say if you missed the deadline last March and you have a hole rusted in your frame that Toyota would now be replacing it.

Depending on when your in service date is, I'd be at least documenting it at your Toyota dealer, so when the official notice comes out you have a better chance in frame replacement if you are indeed past the 12 year mark.

Did previous owner live in South Carolina? I didn't know that state was affected by this campaign. Surely your frame shouldn't rust through in SC, but I've only visited, don't live there...

Too bad I only got word of this after this 3/31/16 date. Bought my 2000 Tacoma brand new. Yes I've moved a lot over the last 6 years or so but still. I've already replaced the top and bottom of my frame from the cab back with 1/4"x4" steel. Now I'm having to go back and chop out about 90% of the sides of the rail over my rear tires from rotting clean through. Counting my lucky stars I have not had any rust break through from the cab forward.

I could be mistaken but I think the service that ended in March was only for 2nd Gen Models, not sure what the deal is/was for first gens.

I thought on the second gens they were only doing up to 2008?

Welp got the call today, frames in after 10 months of waiting! Will the dealer put my aftermarket parts back on such as bumper/sliders and topper? Still having a hard time finding a good write-up on things to bring into to the dealer and have them replace while its in half. Would like to take full advantage of Toyota and get the most out of this 05' 180k mile beast. Also can i request them to add rust prevention coating on before they even start this shindig? So many doubts i have right now with Toyota and a little skeptical of this major operation as most probably are.

There seems to be a huge range of disparity among dealerships of what they are willing to do and how much they'll charge you for it. I think all they are responsible for is bringing the vehicle up to stock specs. All you can do is ask (nicely):D

My dealer is pretty vague on what they'll do.

As for first gens, the buy back was for '96-2000 model years. 2001-2004 first gens got frames replaced if vehicle was undercoated by Toyota during that campaign and the frame rotted out within 15 years of initial purchase.

My dealer wrote up quotes for the items I asked about, all were too high. I said no and they promptly reevaluated the labor charges and gave a break on parts... Don't accept the first offer.

yup, buybacks were only for the early model years. 01+ they replaced frames if the requirements were met.

'07 TRD sport access cab w/ 90k miles. Truck originally from AK, now in CO, so not great for corrosion (salted roads)

Made an appointment for an inspection at LHM Boulder Toyota for Jan 11th. I wouldn't have looked for it if my brother didn't send me a link to the class action lawsuit.

What do y'all think? Looks like that special "new frame" kind of rust to me.

Rusted frame, busted dreams, TRD floor mats, disappointment mod.
My sad story: Bought a nice, "low mileage" (108K) 2005 Tacoma Access Cab TRD Offroad from a dealer in PA on 12/8/16. On 12/20/16 it failed VA inspection due to frame rust. The dealer had disguised the frame rust and we'll be seeing each other in court in the next few months, but I have some recent scoop on the class action suit: settlement will be announced on 4/22/17. Got that straight from Toyota Motor Sales, USA.
