I went to the dealer for my 2nd trans. update and also had them investigate a clunk noise coming from the rear end somewhere. It happens mostly when taking off from a stop sign, or with a weight shift of the truck, like a road undulation or speed bump. They said when it's on the lift, the left rear wheel is able to be pulled down, unlike the right.
They ordered me a new leaf spring and installed it today, but it did not fix the problem. They want me to come back in a few weeks when they can get some chassis ears, so they can drive it more and figure out where it's coming from.
Anybody else have this issue? Any ideas?

Mine clunks when rolling to a stop, like a harsh downshift. It is super annoying. Seems to get worse as the weather gets cooler here in Phoenix. Didn't notice it so much over the winter months and now it is back with a vengeance. Some say it is axle wrap.

That's annoying but not the issue I am having since it would not explain the wheel being able to move and be pulled down when on the lift. I wish they would let me go in the shop to see what's happening. I think I will lift up the rear end tomorrow and check it out myself.

We finally had some cold weather and now mine is doing the clunk again too (I had forgotten about it over the summer). The cold weather seems to exacerbate the front needle bearing too. What fun.

I had this happen on my 2014 when I would take off from a stop after using my brakes, took it to the dealer and they had to replace quite a few things including bearings in my rear axle. Total was 900 in work covered by warranty.

Mine doesn't clunk...per se but it does seem to have a sloppy lash in the rear end sometimes when downshifting or when the indecisive transmission can't seem to figure out what gear it wants to be in.

Mine made such a noise/s when braking or taking off from a stop sign. It was the cab mount. It was incorrectly torqued.

Edit: I've got a video on here somewhere - if you search my posts.

Mine does the same thing clunk and makes the truck lurge forward when coming to a stop, always feels harsher when the truck is cold. Had the service tech test drive it and said he didn't feel anything. Dealership said all they could do is have a different tech drive it again.

Mine did that also but the problem went away after the recall spring replacement. The rear drum brakes will click when braking forward after braking from backing up. It's done that since new and even after I changed the pads at 102K miles. That's just the nature of the beast.

If they can't hear it they can't fix it. Go for a ride with the tech.

I don't have time for that ive already been on three rides with techs and the regional FTS twice to get my howling rear diff resolved, squealing brakes, creaking leaf springs, vibrating steering wheel, etc. 40k for a truck and Ive been to the dealer probably 9 times in 12 months for service issues. Now just another issue I have to take a ride for. Yes they already checked torque on ubolts.

This will be another phantom problem like the shift flare that will take multiple carefully timed trips to the dealer. It means I have to drop the truck off over night. Get there first thing in the morning when it is cold to drive it and then roll the dice on whether it will actually act up again. Similar to the shift flaring issues I still have and the speedometer needle randomly ticking.
