Lembowski's old build thread is where this originally came from.

    @2ndGenJonny

Design and fabrication by "The Truck Shop" in San Diego, cost was $250. Less than 24 hour turnaround!

Stronger than the TC gussets, with none of the compromises.

I'll get more pics of the other side soon. If you go back to page 66 of my build, you can see where we discussed it last year.

I feel like Jake and Elwood right now, the Blues Brothers, on a mission from God, rebuilding the front end as fast as can be.

Gotta run across town for an OEM front axle takeoff!

I voted for Nick too. He's been so generous with his time on TW.

Just wanted to say thank you to each of you. :hattip:. :fistbump:

After today, my truck will have a fully rebuilt front end. In essence, resetting the heavy maintenance clock forward a number of years. In conjunction with all the other work I've done this year, I really feel like I've got a shot.

    :burnrubber:

Here's what's on deck for today:

Here is my front end list.
    • Spindle gussets,.
    • Install spindles
    • Clean and grease UCA's
    • Replace torn Moob UBJ boot
    • Install fully rebuilt factory performance LCA's
    • Install Bilstein 6112's coilovers
    • ECGS Diff Bushing
    • Front brake lines, and replace brake line tubing
    • New Toyota Front brake rotors
    • New Toyota Front brake pads
    • New Toyota axle (drivers)
    • New hubs/ Wheel bearing assembly, both sides
    • New inner tie rods
    • New outter tie rods
    • Alignment.

Good call on going with OEM on the brakes. Spending the cash on EBC isnt worth it.

Doh! I did radio you ahead of time that section was coming!

Well at least if that was the case you blew it out right before redoing the whole front end anyway :)

So far I think my alignment tabs and bolts are OK. Drivers rear side cam is a bit out of adjustment now based on witness marks I put on after alignment. On my to do list is to correct that and apply anti-seize at the same time. Need to do a tire rotation so will probably do all that at the same time.

    Have a good day wrenching!

    Thank you.

You did fabulous calling them out on the radio. :) It was me.

It turns out I damaged a second cam. I didn't catch it on dissembly. I'm putting it back together and I found the plate was loose against the bolt, fortunately I already have a replacement in hand from dealer.

If you're going to go through the trouble of greasing the cams, I strongly recommend the total chaos cam tab gussets. I'm sure we can hook up a mobile welder for you to burn them on. Easy job. It's worth the $80, plus welding cost, IMO.

    I'll help if need be.

Voted. Nick is my go-to for a lot of the stuff I've done to my truck. And the notion of modding the OEM LCAs for strength (rather than going aftermarket) receives my nomination for Idea of the Year. Alas, there is no thread for that.

Thanks, I'll look into those! I'll probably do the anti-seize when I've got the truck on a lift for tire rotation - anti-seize looks like it takes no time at all. If I do the gussets I'll save those for when I do weld on sliders some day. So many mods, so little time...

    Thanks Eric! Welcome.

    Member of the year? lol

Would be nice to win something for all my efforts.

In the grand scheme of things the contest are kind of silly but the prizes are nice. I looked at it as a shortcut to finish my build, and really it's just a popularity contest, and I've never done one of those and don't expect to win now.

    :)

You get vote too. Interested in your feedback on the poly LCA bushings after you get them in obviously. With ~160k on my FJ it's probably about time they get replaced.
