Ok, so I recently bought a 2003 Tacoma double cab sr5 trd. It has keyless entry and it worked great when I first got it. I could activate it from 30 feet away! But recently, I can barely activate it within 5 feet. I replaced the battery in the fob...no luck. I checked all the wires from the alarm system....no luck. Please don't comment about the fob to the head thing. I know it works. That's the only way I can activate it. I would like some help on this. I recently installed a radio but the problem happened 2 weeks after that install. I have also done the free alarm upgrade. Any help is appreciated.

I'm trying to figure out how to do the free alarm upgrade. What to I have to purchase to do something that is free? I have keyless entry and all power windows, locks etc.

This happened to me. I just put the remote on the right side of my head and it somehow makes it reach over 10-15 feet.

there is a post somewhere here that someone extended the wire for the antenna for the keyless. I'll have to check but it's possible

@Sicyota04 to make the keyless entry an "alarm" you will need the glass break sensor and the little blinking light (only for cool effect)

Is your security system aftermarket? My key fob in the first video isn't an OEM fob. It's aftermarket. But it still uses the OEM security system. I ended up ditching that remote and going back to the oval shaped looking remote, the OEM one. Sorry for the confusion

No it's the same security system that came from the dealership in my area. But I'll start taking a look for the module and looking for the antenna and do this soon. Tired of having my friends have to wait until I get to my truck just to unlock it.

Technically, you don't need to buy anything. I turned my Toyota VIP Keyless System into the VIP Alarm system without buying the $85+ glass breakage sensor + LED and now it behaves like an alarm (except for sensing glass breakage and activating from that). I followed the directions here: http://www.customtacos.com/tech.old/index.php?article=12

Once you do that, the instructions/manual for the alarm system and how to program it is here: http://www.customtacos.com/tech.old/files/tsb/TVIP-RS3200-Programming.pdf

Gotcha. Yeah it will clearly say Toyota Vehicle something something system on it. Driver side kick panel. There may be some black foam shit covering the box.

Alright found my module for my alarm and at the top of the module box there's a wire leading out and at the end of that wire is nothing. Gonna get me some 18 gauge wire and try it out. Thanks @thunderone for the write up!

I went to Toyota today and bought a new OEM fob. Fixed the problem. I can do it from over 200ft away. Thanks for the information though.

Interesting. That module looks different from mine. Maybe yours is aftermarket? Either way, same principle of extending the antenna.

Yes and no. It was installed from the factory but the security system is from an aftermarket company not associated with Toyota.

What does it do differently than the normal rs3200?
