I have an appointment with another dealer the day after Christmas. I won't say anything and see what they come up with. It's 60 degrees today in Denver and the chirp is very annoying. It's getting louder. Yep, hammer the gas and it goes away. 2k miles on it so far. Chirp started 1500 miles ago. I wonder if a new pump would do the same thing? Maybe change it out for a different one? I'm guessing Toyota will have to develop a service bulletin for this fix?

You should read all the replies in this thread, especially mine. There is no fix. Play with your fuel brands is your only hope to minimize chirping

I wonder why the chirp starts at 500 miles for everyone... it has to be computer controlled. I wonder if thats when the high pressure fuel pump cleans through the other injector for the first time.

My FRS never started chirping until 1500 miles or so. The Tacoma still isn't chirping and we have almost 3k. It's not a hard-coded number in the computer. EVERYONE STOP FREAKING OUT. IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL, ALBEIT A BIT ANNOYING AT TIMES.

I was wondering the same thing. I've been traveling so I haven't driven it much from what I've noticed it won't really start making noise until you

I just say TRD, powered by crickets. Carry on. Still a bad ass truck

you dont have the chirp... dont comment on how we need to stop "freaking" out. Its so loud on mine that it makes me not want to drive it around. I cant use some gas and it isnt a normal operation or they would "all" do it. the ones that do it often start around 500 miles.. its very common.

Did you even read ANY of the other posts where they mention it's common in the FRS/BRZ cars (Also DI/D4S)? I think I would know, since, uh, I daily drive one. It's the same chirp/cricket noises yall are describing for the Tacomas. Just because my Tacoma isn't doing it, doesn't mean I have no idea what I'm talking about...since it does it on the FRS (along with thousands of other people who have posted about it in the FRS forums)

Just seems shitty. And for them to say just monitor it until it gets worse is not a comforting response. I'd gladly return this thing for something that doesn't sound like a bird house. I'll just see what they say. I'll also try different fuel to see if that helps.

Go ahead and try dealers then. You're going to run into the same exact responses we had when the FRS came out in 2013. "We can replace the HPFP for you, but we can't guarantee it will go away"

    http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9836

    Here's the TSB for FRS/BRZ: S-SB-0023-12 . TSB lists R&R for HPFP:
Verify that the condition matches the example video below.
    Chirp Noise Example
Does the vehicle have an abnormal chirp or squeak sound from the High Pressure Fuel Pump
    Assembly?
    • YES — Continue to step 4.
    • NO—This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.

Again, everyone stop freaking out. It's not detrimental to the operation of the car. There is no permanent fix. If you're THAT worried about it because of an annoying chirping noise, try your luck at the dealer. Not my time you're wasting lol

Thanks for that. I pretty much expect that. I guess it's a waste of time. That's why I came to this forum. Usually easier to ask the community vs dealer trips. I really appreciate the feedback.

Yeah, just play around with fuel brands to minimize the loudness. I can't be certain, but it seems like it gets quieter the more ethanol content it has.

I had a regional tech tell me to run non-ethanol gas in it to get rid of the noise. I did for two full tanks and the noise did go away but I thought it was crazy to spend the extra money on fuel to make a noise go away that should not exist to begin with.

Maybe it was the inverse of what I remember. But either way, its probably got something to do with ethanol content. I dont even hear it anymore unless I'm idling next to a wall or something it echoes off of and my exhaust is loud anyways.

Dont most major top tier gas brands have up to E10 anyway in all their pumps?

A couple of different threads about this however, try checking out the thread chirping noise. I also had the chirping noise a few months ago and read about another TW member TacoFister who created an informative thread and YouTube video about the chirping fuel pump. Anyway, I contacted his dealer who changed his pump for more information and then went to my selling dealer armed and ready. There was no disagreement with my dealer and the noise was confirmed as the high pressure fuel pump, it was replaced with the cam actuator arm and no chirping noise since. Also, TacoFister has indicated he has driven several thousand miles on his Tacoma following the pump replacement with no pump noise either but, a few members has said after the dealer changed out their pump the noise returned, so verdict is still out I guess but glad to be a success story. Best wishes!

Basically my story as well. After several trips to the dealer ("unable to replicate symptoms...") I finally got a tech who recognized it as the fuel pump. Had that and the cam actuator replaced. I've got about 1500 miles (maybe more) on the new pump and the chirp has not returned.
