Bleeding brakes

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.

1) We all know Toyota recommends DOT 3, and many agree that DOT 4 is fine to use as it has a higher boiling point. Is this 100% true? I do not want to damage seals etc.

2) I would like to use a different color brake fluid as well. What do you use?

3) Has anyone used a syringe for bleeding brakes? Seems like a clean, one man way of doing the job with no air bubble issues.

Also a nice tool to have for taking out excess oil, trans fluid etc.

I've mixed them and subsatuted Dot 4 for dot 3. They're foward compatible. You can't put dot 3 inn a dot 4 system.

 

Get a power bleeder - or make one (if you already have a compressor)

Both are good ideas, but the syringe looks simpler and better and the price is right. I was just wondering if anyone has used it.

Carefull with dot 4. It will withstand higher heat, the down side is it will also attract moisture. Your not on a race track pushing hard on your parts, no need for #4.

What brand DOT 3 do you recommend that is a different color than the factory color. I want to see the new fluid coming out and the color will help my old eyes see it better.

 

All brake fluid will pull moisture from the air if left open in the bottle or master cylinder cap left off for extended periods. Why not go the easy route and get a piece of tubing that fits over the bleeder then put that into a bottle partially filled with brake fluid. One man job!

 

Can't say that i've ever seen brake fluid purposely colored. It's clear with a slight haze of blue or turning brown form moisture.
