After driving it for nearly a week and a half now, my 28 year old Hilux is issue free and runs flawlessly. That's a testament to Japanese quality. These American made Tacomas aren't equal in quality to their Japanese counterparts. Tacomas are having issues right out of the gate.

Dang. I've been there 3 days now in just 2700 miles. It's getting really annoying. I know they've tightened the bed mounts, but I'll have to ask them if they've checked the cab. Since they replaced one of the leaf springs, the U-bolt torque should be good on at least that one. They have their "master tech" on it, so I would hope he checked the torque on the other side.

I think the saddest day of my life was trading in my 1980 Toyota Long Bed Hilux 4x4 pickup in 1987 for a Toyota 4Runner. That truck went anywhere and everywhere and I NEVER had any mechanical problems with it, even though I beat the crap out of it.

Yes then you spend all of that time with the dealer for them to turn around and tell you they couldn't consistently replicate the problem or most likely they tell you "it's deemed normal for the vehicle"

And what do they give you in return? An extended warranty that essentially does nothing because they can't FIX the problems.:annoyed:

The small dealership I work at has had very little issues with the new truck. We see more problems with the Venza and Tundra. Not sure why your having all the problems but the Tacoma is still a reliable truck when compared to any of the domestics.

So now that it's daylight, I take a look under the truck, and this is what I find. I guess the fix is to stick a rag in it?!
OMFG, am I a bit upset.

Mine did it long before it got cold. One time it was really loud when I went over a speed bump. I actually got out and looked to make sure nothing had broken, that's how loud it was.

Damn thats loud, mine is more of an annoying slight creak clunk. I figured just due to the cold. Its been a little warmer the past couple days and haven't noticed it doing it anymore.

The tech must have stuck it in between the leaf springs to help diagnose the noise then forgot to remove it. Try another dealer.

Have you asked the dealer if you can drive another one on the lot? Either new or used. Find some speed bumps and replicate your other driving conditions. I don't know but mine has been a clunking, clanking beast since day one. Couple that with seeing how many other people complain about it and I have just assumed it's normal for the truck.

You should hear what the driveline sounds like if you slam the clutch down too fast at lower RPM in 1st. Sounds like someone slamming two frying pans together underneath the truck.

At one point I thought the clanking over bumps might be the exhaust slamming against the frame (check how close it is to the frame, I couldn't even get one finger in between when cold). But I haven't checked this theory out further.
