I have a '17 M/T and have not had an issue thus far at about 1500 miles.

I do notice the stiffness of shifts when first starting the truck on cold days, but it loosens up as it warms up. I have driven manuals my whole life and this is not an issue or unique to the Tacoma. It happens with all M/T's I've ever had. Like the fluid thickens up when it gets really cold and it just needs to warm up.

I have yet to run into a dealership (GM, Toyota, Honda, any of them) that didnt have service loaners. Maybe its just my region.

    all tore up already
who put 600 miles on the truck? know you are upset your truck isnt working properly, but i wouldnt blame factory quality checks because it had to work at some point if it has 600 miles on it.

I did, I picked it up with 26miles on it. but I would say 550 of the miles were all hwy miles, so very little clutch work needed, I brought the truck out of state, so I had to drive it back. They are still doing diagnostic, so no update yet.

why would the clutch or tranny go in a month/600+/- miles on it? When i picked up the truck I did notice the clutch was catching really late (almost at the very top of the release) but I was going to get them to adjust it at the 1st schedule service.

Catching late is normal I think, mine grabs towards the end too. I don't think I have any clutch related issues. It does want to shudder a bit into 1st when warm unless I really slip the clutch, but I'm not 100% convinced yet that it's an issue.

Can you describe the problem more? So you go into gear ok and can fully release the clutch fine without the engine stalling and then nothing? It's like you are still in neutral??

right, it's pretty much like that - Start the engine as normal, clutch in while in Neutral, and then put in 1st gear, and release clutch and engine doesn't stall or anything and when give it gas you could kinda feel like the it wants to move but it doesn't.

I have followed most of the MT issues in the third gens. This is not one I am familiar with. It definitely sucks for you but it sounds serious enough that the dealer will have to fix it. None of this "normal" BS they usually give. Keep us posted as us MT guys would like to know the outcome incase ours act up in the same way.

@RedBeard1 any ideas? You seem to be the MT expert around here. Let's get this fellow MT fan back on the road.

So they finally took dropped the tranny and took a look once the dealer's service department got approved by Toyota. The clutch, flywheel, etc are all toasted. Also both front cv joints are leaking. They have submitted pix to the warranty claims department to order replacement parts. My question is how did this happen? They said they don't know, and kept hinting that 'someone' been abusing the truck to cause this. Both my wife and I have been driving manuals for the last 20 or so. In fact we only owned manual cars and trucks. And since this is a brand new truck and still haven't been broken in yet, we have been keeping it pretty light in the rpm etc. Anyways they can't give us an eta on the fix. Should I push to have the truck replaced? This is pretty disappointing on a truck that we look so hard to find. Thanks toyota for the early Xmas present.

Where there any miles on it when you bought it? Maybe someone beat the living shit out of it on a test drive.

It has 26miles on it when I picked her up. Would it be possible that the clutch was slipping since the beginning and since we didn't really push it pass 3/4k rpm, we we couldn't really noticed? Would 600miles totally burn it out? But how do you explain the CV joints issue? The truck only been in 2wheel drive and never to been off road. 80% Hwy miles.

Well somewhere between MX or TX - wherever they made your PRO - and your ass in the seat of it somebody had some fun turning off your traction controls in a slippery gravel lot.

As for your CV's your PRO clearly drove across some lava....duh

Wow...that's a lot of fucked up stuff. What's crazy is the clutch and the CVS joints have to be unrelated. This is the first clutch failure we have heard of on a 3rd gen. I would guess some one raced the shit out of that thing on a test drive maybe? Did you order it in Iraq was it sitting in the lot and you just found it? Sorry OP. @RedBeard1 any thoughts?

So much for the thought that the Pro is special and immune from the turd gen quality control problems.

    .
...^^^... Call Toyota Corporate and open a file and find a good dealer to work with you.

You should end up with a free loaner and repaired truck ... and maybe an extended warranty if it happens again.

    Good luck OP

PS ... Maybe the 15-20 Toyota Dealers where I live ... the service goes from A to Z ... if Toyota Corp gets involved, the services tends to be better.

Being polite and firm has made my years with Toyota service problems productive for everyone.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Yeah sorry for your luck man. Someone played with a pro like it was a trophy truck for 20 of 26 miles would be my guess. My 07 was a MT and I got it hot a couple times but it held up well. Looks like that got hot enough to slip and someone toasted it. If you had caused it you would have been able to smell it. I would expect a young sales person drove that one "home" for the weekend!

I had a buddy who got a Rapter and jumped it at 100 when it was two days old. So hard the air bags deployed then had it towed to the dealer. He thought it would be under warranty because it was a Rapter. I was like yeah dude you wrecked it!

I got my TX Pro with 21K. The right front shock was blown and the factory skids had a little damage. I got a fair price and was replacing all that stuff so was not a huge deal for me but you have to be careful with the "special package" stuff because people think they are way more bulletproof than they are. In your case buying new I would be extremely pissed off.
