I'd love for you to come on out to our district some time, and learn all about what an "untrained yokel" is capable of.

I hope so. I hope I'm just tired and amped from fighting 2 fires today, on top of my full time job.

I didn't come on here to talk smack, I came here to bond with other people who own Tacomas.

You get to fight fires? Most of the firefighters around here spend all day on calls to assisted living facilities and traffic accidents.

Medical calls are a large part (the majority) of what we do. But now that it's getting cold, and people are turning on their space heaters and using their fireplaces, we have seen a huge uptick in fires.

Volunteer FF for 12 years and Professional for 1, will you be able to run emergency traffic on your POV? I'd hid everything in/behind the grill and the siren pointed down towards the ground for maximum sound.

What about your companies insurance? Because that is whose insurance it will effect.

I'm going to chime in here because I feel like a lot of people don't understand what a volunteer firefighter in a rural community is like. I'm not one, but my sister was and still does wildland, my cousin is the lieutenant at our station, and my dad was a firefighter in one of the nearby cities for 32.5 years. In rural places, sometimes those are the only responders they have. Our station has about 10, 5-6 residents, that are full time. But a lot of the time the volunteers have priority for calls. They get just as much training as anyone else. They respond to medical, wildland, structural, not only in our community but at the paper mill 20 miles away, as well as the RailX and Tyson plants. I'm just saying if you don't know the OPs situation based on where he lives, you don't need to pick at what he's doing. As a firefighter, I'm sure he knows the laws he's supposed to follow.

    Just my .02 though!

I would find it very hard to believe that you wouldn't catch shit from your insurance company if you were involved in an MVC while responding emergency traffic. With lights and sirens running even if you have the ROW you're WAY more likely to be accused of causing wreck. i personally wouldn't run emergency due to the litigation liability for yourself and your fire dept

    None,
    Most Important:
Thank you to all first responder's.
Volunteer or on staff, you all go above and beyond
    again thank you.

    In Canada,
Ontario for sure, and to the best of knowledge all Volunteer's in rural communities must use a GREEN flashing light.

Oh don't get me wrong, but because you are responding to a fire call, you tend to fall under their stuff. (forgive me, I was just heading to bed so contacts out and cant see) But yes. So you'd actually be a major damn ding to both Fire co. and Personal. But if you get injuried, its on the Fire house, unless you were believed to be driving wreckless.

Does it vary state to state sure.

I just don't wanna see this dude wreck and get hurt, or worse, hurt someone else.

I've been involved in a significant wreck, because ya know, red lights and woo woos make you invincible and give you the right of way regardless of color on the light. According to my driver.

Last thing I wanna see is any one get hurt.

I hear ya! I was involved in a wreck with a clear GREEN traffic signal in my lane and was written at fault while responding and an ambulance bc one of the cell phone heros said that we had a RED light and didn't give due regard. Thankfully the drive cam cleared us on a legal standpoint but the service I worked for at the time payed the other drivers claim and hospital bill when they struck us in the side while she was on her phone. Sometimes I just shake my head and wonder!
