For 600 - 700 yards max, an AR15 in .223 is plenty. This one has a 1:7.77 Kreiger barrel, and shoots the 75gr PPU (which is $.50 per round) out to 600 yards very accurately. A 10" plate at 500 yards is a 10/10 thing. The upper is from http://6mmar.com/

    In .308, the 5R Remington 700 is a deal.
    https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog...cts_id/411540287/REM+700+SS+308+24+5R+MILSPEC

This scope is a raging bargain for clarity and the reticle is awesome:

It's not bad. It pushes you a good bit though. Here's a video of a buddy shooting it for the first time.

It's basically a toy I take it out a few times a year try to hit a gallon jug at 1500yd. Miss and go home. Haha. I have a 6.5x55 I built on a savage action that I plink with out to 1500 too. Not saying I actually hit what I'm aiming at though.

Nice .50 cal! I've only used pintel mount M2s.

My 7-08 is around 14lbs. I wouldn't mind if it was a couple pounds heavier, but it's not too bad in a pack at that weight.

Better to ask what I have not done.
7-08? Are you picky on brass? I got about 20-30 cases if you want them. I have nothing to stick them in.

Thanks but I've got about 700 Nosler and Federal cases now, so hopefully won't need any more for a while.

I've bought a gun just because I already had ammo. Seems justified to me.

I had five 7-08s but now only have one heavy LR rifle and one lightweight mountain rifle. Lot of performance in the 7-08.
