Has anyone changed out they're 2016 Tacoma Factory head unit with JBL speakers. Navigation system that comes with the head unit is horrible it will take you around the block when you can just go straight down the middle. I never liked built-in navigation but I thought I can get used to it when I got my first Tacoma but I'm wrong I love my portable Garmin or Google Maps on my phone I just find it to be tacky with a big 8-inch screen not being utilized properly. I know there's a a mirroring kit By Beat Sonic before spending $200 + on that maybe i can add that money to get a new head unit. What's your suggestions out there and what have you guys done already.

Uhhh this Tacoma head unit is the coolest, easiest to use most technologically advanced pieces I've ever had in any of my new cars.

You'll be losing the ability to adjust numerous critical settings and features if you replace this head unit.

But hey, if you really want that Jenson with the multi color display then go for it

does this mean you drive through buildings??

Again as stated I would keep it. There are plenty of tweaks that you can do that other members have done. Have you updated your map system? I wouldn't pull the 3rd gen one out to replace with a stereo that I have to add everything back into, (camera, Bluetooth, GPS) ect. especially as its already there. but that's my 2 cents.... if you had a 2008 with a stock radio I would say go for it but to get a good quality one that has all those options your looking at $600+ (700+ if you go with the Maestro Idatalink) if... so even if you go with the mirroring kit, youre still getting out cheaper and it still look good in the dash.

To me that's money that could be spent on a lift, or wheels/tires or armor.

The stock premium entune unit is $4700 to replace.

no issues at all with it, I like it.

I did replace all speakers, put in an amp and full
    ported sub across the back.

Can do what I did. Buy the ram ball mount on this site and secure your phone or garmin in it. I use Waze on my phone for nav

Id like to find one that has preamp outputs, but retains the same features as factory.

No issues with the premium JBL head unit for me either. Navigation has never led me the wrong way, even in some of the most rural areas of Texas. It is in fact, for me, the best head unit I have ever had in a vehicle. My 2013 corvette was pretty good too but this one is fantastic.

The Beat Sonic would probably be your best and cheapest route.

Love the factory unit. The Navigation is terrible but all factory nav is awful. I connect my phone through Bluetooth and set the map on Google Maps.

    1.04. Kbro2s. ICONS.
I used to have a weekend / track car, a 2013 Audi S5 with all of the bells and whistles.

My 17 entune with JBL completely BLOWS the Audi MMI out of the water.

Way better controls and vehicle intergration. There's no monthly charge. Text messages to voice. Navigation is great. The ECO monitor is freaking awesome.

a lot of things I had to use VCDS to control on my car.. I can change in entune.

    Im really satisfied.

I have my phone connected by bluetooth, and would very much like to use google maps on the factory head unit. Are you saying that is possible?

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
no excuse for modern head units not to have preouts

While I'm not looking to replace the unit, it hardly works flawlessly.
    1. Voice recognition works one time, produces a laugh another.
    2. Speaking of VR, my head unit has asked me to do voice setup over a dozen times.
    3. OP is right, most other nav's produce better results.
    4. My head unit, entune, and pandora have a rocky relationship that I've had to counsel on multiple occasions, including a couple where I had to break them all up and then bring them back together
    5. Recently text sync has hadsimilar relationship needs
    6. Then there is the random reset. Worst case it did it about 6 six times in 20 minutes.
Don't get me wrong, generally I like the layout, the sound, Bluetooth call and sound quality, but it isn't flawless. If I were wishing for some things:

    1. Better volume knob. Mine is a slick little bugger that to get a grip on it, your fingers will usually meet the screen and change the station, accidentally downvote a song, etc. G
    2. Allow mirroring of Apple or Android maps, assistant, etc.
    3. Add Spotify to Entune
