I crawl over the curb to park my truck in my side yard gravel. Tonight I pulled out to go to the store and when I came home I felt myself run over something.
Did I lose this? If so, what the hell is it?

Thanks guys, I'm a little pissed right now.

Looks like a bump stop maybe. Look on both sides above the rear axel and see if ther is one of those in there.

Is that a mini skid plate for the transfer case? Not sure, just throwing darts here.

I would have said the same thing if it was a 79-85. Do the 1st gens have them?

Could be a bump stop up front as well. I would start by checking the four corners.

Looking at the pictures it looks like it was broke off before and welded back by a third grader.

Looks like a dampener....something used to absorb or counter vibrations.

What about an aftermarket muffler isolation hanger?

Doubtful, there's nowhere to hang anything from. In the first pic there's a giant weld gob across it and in one of the following you can see the crack on the backside. If not some sort of bump stop I will say motor mount support of some kind.

I was thinking transmission mount, but it looks nothing like mine. Does the 5 speed have a different set up than an auto?

It feels like a weight, little bastard is heavier than it looks. Daylight tomorrow I'll go look for another one or where it fell off of.

Honestly, I'm hoping it's not mine. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was. Just has me nervous.

I still say dampener. The mount doesn't look robust enough for a bumpstop.

Is that a nail going through that hole that is then welded to the large round part?
