OK, let me be more specific. The truck is an 01 Tacoma V6 auto. Sometimes, not everytime, maybe 1 out of every 20 times I drive it or less, I put it in drive and it seems like nothing happens. I hit the gas and it just kind of barely moves. When it happens I have put it into the Low gear and it goes fine, throw it into second and then drive, and it drives normal. But like I said it doesn't happen very often. Not sure if there is some type of tranny fluid issue, pressure issue, or maybe even some kind of issue with the shifter. Tranny fluid is good. Anyone heard of this, and can tell me what it might be.

Correct, no sputtering. Just kind of rolls along and then sometimes starts to kick in while still in drive. Normally I will throw into Low, then upshift into 2 and then drive. But occassional it kicks in on its own. Like I said it doesn't do it very often so I don't get it.

Sometimes if I keep it in drive it eventually starts to go. I normally don't wait. I do the manual shifting and everything is fine.

Sounds like an actuator on the tranny or some type of computer failer or maybe a linkage problem, Have you hooked up a code reader to yet?

I haven't hooked up a code reader. Didn't know if that would even register on one, I didn't honestly think of a computer failing. I really don't think it's the tranny itself just for the simple fact that it drives fine when put into the low gear.

Yeh its possible i had a problem with my 4 wheel drive doing kind of the same thing a few years back it was the actuator ( it was a $500 repair). Try some local parts place like Napa or Car quest usually they will let you check it for free.
    Good luck

It's an internal component of the tranny.

Toyota all weather floor mats. Mag light that clunks around in the jack compartment. Dog hair. Dog drool on the windows.
Is it possible the shifter cable could be fraying?

That would make sense if it didn't move in d, and 2 positions. But it just doesn't move in D. L and 2 work fine. But then again, if one isn't working, then maybe it is the no.2 one way clutch. Good info on the links.
