I used to be a mobile electronics installer. I've got a Viper 2way in my truck now. It's excellent, I've done remote starts/alarms in all my vehicles. No scraping windows, no dealing with the cold, or heat in the summer for that matter. There are several models that have a manual transmission mode. It's a bit of a pain but if you follow a specific shutdown procedure in which you leave the car in neutral, remove your foot from the clutch, then pull the e-brake, then remove your foot from the brake. After you've followed this sequence you override the ignition by activating the remote start, pull the key out (truck is still running), get out of the vehicle and press lock on the key fob. This locks the doors and shuts the truck off proving the to the remote start that the truck is in neutral. If you unlock the doors, or the alarm is triggered, or anything happens to the alarm that makes it think it may have potentially been placed in gear, it will not allow you to remote start the truck.

It's not perfect, but much better than risking it like I've done in that past. Some vehicles output a neutral safety signal, but not our trucks unfortunately. (Last I checked anyway, maybe it has it now to MY16+?)

Also live in Loudoun and have never had an issue remote starting, never heard of this before.

I might have to check out your set up sometime. I have considered in the past, but was worried about my truck being somewhat vulnerable with a remote start, having said that I don't know any capabilities of what remote starts of today can do though for auto trans.

So my fiance hates Christmas decorations. In preparation for our 10 hour drive to Indiana to see her family, I have prepared a little surprise. Still waiting on Amazon to show up with my light up Reindeer antlers. For anyone wondering, those are not officially rated garland shackles.

Yeah man anytime. I've geeked out with it a bit, have the automated opening and closing windows, interior temperature reporting etc. I've only just recently starting screwing around with the raspberry pi's. I really want to be able to control all my accessories remotely with my phone, and from a touch screen in the truck. I know there are products that do this already such as SPOD, but why would I spend money on something figured out when I could spend just as much or more money, and more time, to make the same thing! DIY ftw.

Haha man you got to post the reaction. I like how hard you went with the reef wrapping on the roof rack. You going to get a reindeer nose?

Funny thing is I am thinking of investing in the digital S-pod so that I can have lights without all the switches everywhere, assuming that's how that one works. Yea man I need to get schooled up with what you got going on.

I don't see traffic that much, but this was bad. MD and Dc drivers suck. Got back to VA and everyone was signaling and letting me pass

Yeah man. The install is not difficult, a basic understanding of 12v systems, decent wiring diagram, multi-meter, and instruction reading skills are all that you'll need to perform the install. Things may have a changed a bit since I did my install in '13 so it'll take a bit of research. I needed to have a shop flash my immobilizer for the truck, I think it cost 15 bucks.

It seems I'm always busy with something so I can't commit up front to physically helping you through the whole install process, but I would be happy to at the very least advise you on it. Ideally I'd like to come over and try some of your homebrew and chat beer and help you through it... I've done a lot of work building/upgrading local craft breweries you likely frequent.

Ive been in MD for over 5 years now and I'm still not used to the way people drive. You have just drive like ass to get anywhere in the area. I miss the way people drive in Northern California and I thought that was bad haha
